we have an Atlas recruiter on the other page, trying to recruit some of our pilots… something about how they have a sweet retirement deal and industry leading COVID protections.

Interesting. It seems reasonable the FO’s would leave and captains would stay. I wonder what the captain/FO balance is at Spirit.

Perhaps the attrition will take care of the need to have any furloughs, but perhaps downgrades will be required.

With the majority of the pilots leaving being FO's it would stand to reason that downgrades will be a certainty. There will come a point where the balance is lopsided. Many FO's also bypassed up grade so many of those downgraded will be junior to those FO's. Not sure what kind of numbers we need to reduce our staff by, but it sure would have been nice if the special meeting the union and management had, they would have come up with a rough number that we are overstaffed by. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if we had to furlough in addition to attrition. 34 a month doesn't seem like enough. Also need to consider how long it will take to get an interview, job offer, and class date if guys just started applying today. I hope the legacy hunger for pilots is still ravenous.

For those pilots interested, I was told Truck Masters recently invested in a 737 simulator. Higher Power just recently sold their 737 pay to play type rating course = South West interview scheme to Truck Masters. Wasn’t told how much, but can’t imagine they could charge anyone anything.

Just looking at the bid packet and awards regarding numbers. We are very FO-lopsided, and they are not all online yet. The last of the OE is going on this month.

One of the moderators introduced me to the term "seniority inversion." Seems like a fair number of senior CAs in previous distressed companies couldn't bring themselves to give up the seniority and wound up clinging to their distressed companies while their furloughed or less angst-ridden FOs bailed out earlier, only to find themselves later in a different slinging gear for their former FOs.

Everybody's situation is different and everybody has their own priorities but hardly anyone wants to be the guy with no seat when the music stops...

You're a 727FE based in Berlin since 1981 and were hoping you'd have the seniority to bid home but it hasn't happened. You bail and go to this crazy new airline in Texas where nobody sits sideways
All the FO's you're flying with are living the sweet life and saying it will all sort itself out. I mean we've been crossing the ocean since flying boats! They stick around for several more years
The captains ... can you imagine leaving someplace with 25 years seniority and you work 11 days a month! They wait for the pink slips

Fast forward 10 years - the Southwest Captain meets his new FO who was his old FO too.
