Default Bases

What’s the process to get to another base? How often can that be done?
TIA

There’s a monthly vacancy bid. You bid for what you want and hope your seniority can hold it. Right now, any base is able to get for a new hire in a couple of months.

Two days off or two day in a hotel to be provided by the company between assignments in different bases. Also, your vacation resets with each new base assignment. I.e., you lose whatever you bid for in the previous base and have to settle for whatever is left in the new one.

There are currently monthly vacancy bids. Not always the case tho. So get where ya want to be sooner rather than later.

Thanks guys.

So just a scenario, since I’ve heard FLL/DTW are the best places to get a line quick, could we bid first to a base closest to home, say DFW, to be in reserve, and then bid to FLL/DTW when I’m able to hold a line there and then move back to DFW once able to hold a line there?

yup definitely an option as long as we keep having monthly vacancy bids. We should for a while but you never know when they’ll stop. (Covid or any other thing could stop them whenever)

you can change every month, for now. like previous poster said things can change and covid indirectly froze base changes for long time.

And, should there be another ‘black swan’ event that seriously affects flying, you could not only be at a base that isn’t your actual base of choice, but back on reserve as well.

Thanks.
So safe to say, I should just bid my preferred base straight out of training, to play it safe. Even if reserve is longer there.

Depends on your own risk tolerance. There are people that bid where they can hold a line, dump their entire schedule and rebuild it out of open flying at their base of choice. Your option when you can hold a line. Just understand the risks if you are the one with no chair when the music stops…
