AA is hiring a substantial number of Spirit pilots. Received an email from the Union to vote on potential new members. 67 pilots to vote on and 20 are from Spirit. 14 are flow through. That's pretty good.

Please bring some of those great work rules you have. I have flown with a couple Spirit pilots over the last few years. Always a pleasure. Hopefully our hiring continues at its rapid pace.

I wish you the very best.

And only three that are from a Regional that is not a WO. Ooof, we are back to that again.

Well when you have the ability to hire Airbus captains with 10,000 hours and 7000 hours of 121 PiC, those applicants get calls over regional pilots with less experience. The Spirit CA exodus will level off at some point (assuming no liquidation) and I’m assuming non wholly owned regionals will get more of a look, as will NK FOs with lower time at Spirit, who have not been getting many calls for AA.

Oh those poor non union SkyWest guys. My heart bleeds for them. All the instructors I know at several airlines and an air line say that they dislike the SkyWest pilots because they are arrogant and struggle in training with "but back at SkyWest we..." and get to the cockpit with 3.5 stripes.

I say good on them for hiring within the fAAmily. The WO guys bust their asses every day down in the sAAlt mines and deserve their reward. I've worked in those mines and we didn't get crap to show for it. So good on them.

Ohh, don’t get me wrong I don’t feel sorry for them one bit. Especially over those trying to leave Spirit. Plus I thought I was responding to an AA thread, wasn’t paying attention when I clicked my subscription email.

Was just commenting how it seemed reminiscent of pre-COVID where you couldn’t get hired by American unless you were flow or Mil. My Regional had less than 5 hired by AA each year after they started hiring again before COVID. We had a lot more people go to UA/DL/WN/UPS/FedEx

I thought we were on the American forum too lol.

Hell back in the day (up until about 2021) the AApplication had the Space Shuttle on it for aircraft flown. And you pretty much had to have flown it, been a Blue Angel, or win a lottery ticket as a civillian to get hired. And then you had to pass an astronaut physical. Pre covid they would have never looked at a guy like me in his mid 50s with 15000+ hours and several big jet type ratings. But here we are.

I hope we scoop up as many NK pilots as apply. Let the WOs flow and let the non WO regionals think about their career choices. Nobody should have thought the hiring wave would last forever. This is reality now.

Sadly I think you might be stuck at NK for the summer, the summer hiring pause seems to be very likely.

“Brake fans on A12, left side” for one more summer, if you can’t sneak in.

I fly out of a base (UAL) with a large amount of former SkyWest pilots. To be fair, every single one of the ones I've flown with have been top notch.

That seems to be the consensus at AS as well.

That’s what we like to hear ! Can’t wait for my next chapter 😊 So is it 100 percent confirmed weekly classes till at least the end of summer ?

No, nothing is 100% confirmed as AA does not publically release that information. I have not seen any official statements from this company one way or the other. Pretty much everything is second or third hand information that originates from when Department leaders talks to new hire and upgrade classes. This information has been been wrong and changes often. I would still count on a break of somekind as it allows the training departments to catch up. During the mass hiring a couple years ago people were waiting 4 to 6 months between INDOC and Fleet Training.

if Delta slows hiring thats when you start worrying. Our management are followers. We only lead pack when deciding to furlough….

Almost 100 NK pilots hired at UA in Q1!!!

If possible, I'm curious to have a couple of questions answered to the best of your ability.

1) How many people approximetly have left since the initial furlough notices last fall?
2) What is the total pilots on the senority list currently?
3) what is the current rate of attitrion since hiring has picked since the start of the new year?

thank you!

Heres my approximate napkin math,

1- 410.

2 - 3080 on the seniority list, Could be 300 or more on that list are furloughed, Conservatively 2780 Online.

3 - Around 270 as of today for 2025.

270 this year?!

B200 Hawk 03-16-2025 03:42 PM

Good thing those who got out did when they did because things are going to slow down real quick if the economic doom and gloom is right. Airlines already backtracking on quarterly expectations. Sitting at the bottom of the seniority list might be a bit tense in the immediate future.

3190 on the list at the start of the month.
2940 active as of the start of the month.
250 furloughed.

3369 to start the year.
So 179 resignations outside the furloughs.

I was using the numbers on the ALPA pilot dashboard.

Interesting.
Considering all of the “regional captain” bashing as of late.
