Every single person that left was one more FO that didn’t get furloughed. Every CA that left was one more CA that didn’t get downgraded to FO. You ought to be very grateful to those you are calling ‘scum.’ And if they guessed wrong, they’ll be the ones paying the price in any event.

I think a lot of pilots are taking the approach to just wait for an acquisition and slide onto a more stable airline's pilot seniority list. Its a legitimate strategy.
Eastern went BK and was a much larger airline than Spirit. They were the largest airline domestically in the US for total enplanements less than 6 years before they shut down and 3rd largest behind United and Delta. Obviously not that large when they closed their doors because they started shrinking, but a lot of pilots there said the same thing about going out of business. Same at PanAm.

You say spirit is not too big to fail, I say it is. That is why I was suggesting reading the DOJs arguments from the trial.
And you are correct, air travel has grown significantly since1990 and the number of airlines has shrunk drastically which hasn’t worked out great for the consumer. If we had 20 some odd airplanes like Silver I’d say yea sure we probably wouldn’t survive. But 200? I’m not so sure. Which is why I believe worst case is we have to end up merging with Frontier but hopefully someone better.

The market share argument is a valid one, however, I would say no have half the number of major/legacy airlines as we do today. The ripple would be much larger today then back then. I would recommend reading the DOJ's arguments from the merger trial. I think it would help put into perspective todays thinking vs what happened in the industry almost 40 years ago.
