Have you ventured into the safety section of this forum? All sorts of discussion regarding incidents. From people that know.
Can you explain the repercussions of someone saying “ yeah, was in the area and heard on the radio “X”. Bumped into the crew after and they told me “XYZ”
???
I guess I’m at a loss as to how it’s so morally incorrect or harmful to the aviation safety community, for someone to say they had an engine failure or a gear malfunction, while operating a flight. No one is divulging details as to what they did or how they treated the incident. Just a story about something going wrong. Relax man. No one gives a crap.

Before ASAP or FOQA, DC-9's and such when I wanted to be somebody at Miramar, I suggested in a very important meeting about misbehaving pilots, that I'd volunteer to put out a monthly safety report (I was the only that knew how to make a PowerPoint or a PDF in training after all).
I said we could collate and explain all the safety reports and broken airplanes and broken pilots in a slick, glossy PDF, with subject-matter expert opinions and scoldings, so the guys would know what's going on.
Everyone from the Senior VP of something to the CP to my other underpaid underlings looked at me like I had three heads. I only have two, my favorite one's woefully underused, or maybe just worn out from the calluses on my right ... never mind, off-topic.
I really don't know why they were so appalled, maybe they were afraid of even more air returns, arguments with MX control, refusing to take an airplane with a history, and probably liability from hearsay.
So I wisely finished my argument with "The worst thing with pot is eating a bag a Cheeto's but give me a bottle of Jack and I'll take a swing at a cop in a heartbeat"
Oh well, I'm out soon and can just feel that Glaucoma coming on.
