No. Other business models are surviving and thriving. Spirit is not.

I feel for every single spirit & airline employee in general going through times like this. But call it what it is. Spirit is failing because it cannot consistently make money. That’s it.

This is so far from the truth. With the exception of the last 2 months and higher oil prices (still much less than previous oil hiking events), air travel and demand has been at record setting levels that have never been seen before.

Spirit screwed themself. Their business model screwed themselves by ****ing off customers for years (front row seat to see if for many years)
The ULCC model is dead and blaming oil, PW, whatever, is just an excuse that wont resonate.

Spirit was able to survive the high oil of 2010-2014 and have record margins. If oil (less than what it was then) is now the issue, well thats an issue with the product and the expenses of the company outside of oil. This is what happens when you have to service debt, high labor costs, and build a crystal palace in FLL.

If Spirit with 100 jets gets $500m, AA/DL/UA with 1,000 jets gets $5b. Only fair.

This is screwing everybody. The legacies are feeling it as well. Ask them if they’d rather have the war and jet fuel prices or not. This is also screwing truck drivers. It’s screwing lots of industries. To deny it is….well, to be in denial.

Nah - Spirit had begun "screwing" up long before the conflict.

So…why does Spirit get the lifeline?
What for the truck driver you speak of?
Legacy airlines? Frontier? Other LCC?

The insanity that you think Spirit operates in a bubble where their failings timed with high oil someone makes their failings not the real issue here.

I don’t want Spirit to fail but I 100% do not want tax dollars wasted on any company that can not survive on their own.

Who said anything about Spirit operating in a bubble where their failings timed with high oil? I didn’t. But the war and high jet fuel price may finish putting Spirit under, and get Frontier in serious trouble, and Avelo, and JetBlue….And the big airlines are feeling it too, even if they are still making money. That is a reality. Spirit may have exited bankruptcy were it not for all this.

Highly doubtful Spirit was going to exit bankruptcy regardless of high oil prices. Their plan involved selling literally everything for a set price, most of which were a little unrealistic as the assets are so niche (airline training centre, hotel that’s technically not a hotel, bright yellow HQ not even in downtown). Frontier will continue to exist even with these high oil prices, same with JetBlue. Are they hurting? No doubt but the only airline that is going to close up shop because of this oil crisis is Spirit, it’s simply the straw that broke the camels back. Their problems started long ago and its snowballed to this very moment.
