And the cool points of telling your friends that you cant hang tonight because you "have to fly a red eye tonight...."

Its just sooooo cool

They usually add R days to my conflict. Last month had a 4 day that carried in a day, bid a 4 day that was dropped, and they added to R days to make a 6 day block. Sucks, but legal.

If there's a holiday early in the new month you can expect them to drop from the current month. It's been that way since this contract has been in force. Only way to force a drop in the new month is to bid non-default option. You'd lose the credit but would be given super seniority in IOT to restore your credit.

Just clarifying, you aren't exactly 'pay protected' in the new month. See your iNK magazine for the formula (I'd repost it but it's not in front of me and I'm lazy). In this example, say your three day was worth 15 hours and the red-eye turn was worth 5 hours. You would be PRT for ten hours, and the additional 5 you work for. It's not that you would get 20 hours of pay because they 'added' a red-eye turn.

Its a conflict and they can clean up the conflict by dropping a red eye in. Im surprised the company does not do more things for conflict cleanup, that is allowed by the CBA. Im assuming they dont have the staffing. I know a lot of pilots had their conflict cleaned with drops in this month, and not July. It seems maybe the company is getting tired of being minus double digit on the first 5 days of the new month and someone finally wised up and suggested they start to drop more from the preceding month
It is usually cheaper (simple cost calculation of dollars vs. productivity) to drop in the new month because they can assign reserve days or other flying that keeps it within the CBA conflict block limits. The current month is not generally dropped because they cannot add new flying or reserve days to the current month.

That's a good point that I never really considered. I was worried they'd do that this month with a 4 day transition hitting July 4th. But I got lucky and they just added a day trip on the 1st.

This is our leverage guys. His image is on the line now. He really wants us to be on time. I'm sure for a decent contract we can all pull together and make this place on time. But I still hear people calling for Paperwork and fuel. Doesn't everybody realize that hurts our chances at the negotiating table?

5 mins before duty in, start of DTW trip this morning, there was no gate agent. So one of my flight attendants went and got one. Yay.

It sounds like they are trying to make transition as miserable as they can for people bidding it. All it does for me is have stronger transition language in our next contract.
