If you are on a family plan and not on the diamond plan with HRA you're doing it wrong.
Unless you take a regular expensive prescription the coverage is the same and if you run the numbers for a catastrophic year it's about the same as the Cadillac plans we have because of out of pocket max (something good from Obama care btw). In a normal somewhat healthy year you save huge because of the premium difference.
The problem is that the insurance companies in the country have made insurance so confusing that most people don't take the time to educate themselves on how their coverage works and what exactly they're paying for.
Btw the company being able to raise our share by 7% whether the plan cost goes up or not is BS

You can also carry over a max of $12k from previous years. Great program, 3 years running and $75k in insurance spent in 2015. Signing up again this year.

HRA keeps carrying over too. So after a few years I have enough banked to cover the deductible and max out of pocket. So basically it covers you 100% for a catastrophic event.
Which lets be honest, is the main reason for health insurance.

huh? If you HRA balance covers your deductible AND your max out of pocket that means you don't pay for ANYTHING. I have the HRA plan with a balance of $2000. ($1000 per year for 2 years). My deductible is already met ($1500). If I go to to the doctor for anything im not out of pocket anything. the deductible is already met. Im single and pay $15 a paycheck for insurance where spirit puts in $1000 a year, and my deductible is $1500.. and y'all are calling that bad? this is insanely good insurance.. my max out our pocket in net work is $2500 and i already have a balance of $2000... on January 1st.. Ill have $3000... i have ZERO complaints about our insurance

Ol Gunga was the one complaining and referencing incorrect numbers while he did it, I had to correct him with his numbers.

oh, ok. my bad.. guess i was getting the vibe of the thread that people think our insurance is bad.. guess i was saying that you don't need to have catasprohic to be protected. If you deductible is met.. even a broken finger would be covered fully...

Yup...I could have expressed my end point better, that being fully covered for a catastrophic event is nice!

I think Id rather make $300k a year like a Delta Airbus CA and pay more for insurance than $150K as a Spirit pilot and have slightly better Insuarnce

So I am just looking at this now for my family. There has to be a down side to this right? It seems silly to get another plan otherwise.
At face value it seems even if we have a "bad year" as you say we still come in under the amount we would have paid in premiums for the posb plan.
This is all assuming we don't change our habits of pretty much only going to medical services for illness, injury and check ups

I have a great idea, let's stop talking about the petty stuff and get back to inspiring our fellow pilots to get excited about contacting our reps to keep the pressure on the company for a contract! Anyone remember the informational picketing? Let's get back to organizing another event at Miramar, Chicago, Detroit. I thought it was a great idea to show up at the hiring events. I think we should also plan on being at the next earning report announcement. Come on guys focus on what matters.
