First 747 takes flight.

It was the 747s fault that I wanted to become a pilot. When my family first moved to the states from Spain, we rode in a 747 and my ol' man took me up to the flight deck and I was so amazed, that I wanted to be a pilot. It was when he got a job as a sim instructor and he put me into the left seat of a 747 sim that I decided I one day wanted a left seat in a whale. I like going to visit my dad when he has an overnight and I get to see the 747, which still have the mounts for the sextants. I hope the whale will never go away.

Too bad Boeing did'nt think of putting these guys names on the new 8 series,it would have been a nice gesture on their part.

First time I rode on one was a Pan Am flight from HNL to LAX, it just seemed really big! The first time in the cockpit of one, I was jumpseating on it and the Captain was my dad, and I remember how nicely laid out the cockpit was and how high off the ground you sat. The first time I worked on one was as a second officer and I remember how ancient the Flight Attendants were(that never changed). The last time I flew one my only thought was how much I was going to miss it since I had to go to an airbus. And now more than a year later I realized that that wasn't the half of it.... I want my Whale back! Thanks for posting that great video!

As a side story, when the 747-8 was being unveiled a couple of weeks ago, the VP of Commercial Airplanes; Jim Albaugh mentioned that Joe Sutter (the Father of the 747) was offered a job at both Boeing and Douglas Aircraft. Joe took the job at Boeing because they had a wind tunnel (or something to that effect).
Albaugh went on to say that of Sutter had taken the job at Douglas instead of Boeing, we would be having this roll out (of the 747-8) in Long Beach (....instead of Everett).
Joe Sutter will always be credited.
