Default Part 121, Past FAF visibility drops...

This is a question for 121 operations. You are past the FAF and the visibility goes below that required for the approach. At DH you see the required visual references, but the reported RVR is still below the published mins for the approach. Does your company policy allow you to land?

Before you answer this I encourage you to look at your manuals. My company manuals and Op Specs have prohibited a landing in this condition for a while now.

Recently, while having a conversation with a friend from a different 121 airline, he became aware of the same restriction in his manuals. He was previously not aware of it until I had him look through the books. This makes one major airline and one regional airline with this policy that I know of. I am just trying to figure out if other airlines have placed this in their manuals.

I'll look, but flight vis has always been controlling after the FAF.

Cat II see to land so continue using in flight visibility. Cat III if RVR not up to mins by AH must go around regardless of in flight vis or seeing runway. at least at our company.

We use flight visibility inside the FAF as well.

Inside the FAF with proper vis cues, continue to landing.

I agree with the previous posts.

CAT I if you've got the visual reference you're good to go. Just better be sure you know what you're looking at if there happens to be a Fed in a bad mood waiting at the gate

Up to and including Cat-2, we can land if vis is reported below mins once inside FAF. Obviously, this assumes you can see what you're supposed to see at mins.

One thing no one's mentioned is that this applies only in the U.S. or US military bases (at least in our OPSPECS).

Anywhere else in the world, if vis is reported below what's required inside the FAF, a MAP is required. This is also the case for Cat-3 no matter where we are.

I was always under the impression that the U.S. domestic option to "take a look" if reported vis falls inside the FAF was unique to our country and the rest of the world just chose not to allow it. Maybe that's a wrong assumption and the restrictions we use outside the United States are self-imposed by my company.

Do any of you folks have the option to do this internationally in their OPSPECS?

My GOM says I can ONLY do it at international places if they let me and prohibits me from doing look-see approaches in the US...
