Default Jeppesen taxiway departure distances

On jepp charts is there a way to tell takeoff distance available from taxiway departures? I haven't seen any with them listed, do you use the Scale at the bottom of the diagram?

It's been a whole since I used Jepps, but it was always in our T/O data if we could or not (121 carrier). I don't think Jepps themselves have that info on there.

It would depend on a lot of factors: runway length remaining, flap setting, temp, pressure, wind, weight, runway contamination, etc.

There's no good way of saying "we can accept" unless you have the data in front of you.

If you have the Airport Analysis data, you can go. Often, I'll have takeoff data for full lengths and one or two intersections.

However, AA data may come from Jeppesen, or another provider, and is entirely different from the approach plates.

If you have correctly stated the question, it is a trick question. If it is asked verbally in an interview I would just say I don't take off on taxiways, unless I'm drunk. And no, you do not use the scale at the bottom for anything that might involve runway distance information for anything pertaining to the operation of your aircraft. BTW, I'm not being mean, but that you even asked those questions; here are some more to ponder... 1) If there are 3 frogs on a log and one decided to jump off, how many frogs are on the log? 2) Who is buried in Grant's tomb 3) When was the war of 1812 4) If an airplane crashed on the border of the US and Canada on which side would they bury the survivors?

Its not just intersection taxiways. For determining the actual available runway length, the three distances TORA/TODA/ASDA would have to be known. The published runway distance rarely coincides with TORA/TODA/ASDA due to stop way and clearway lengths. This also applies to landing distance. The runway length and LDA(Landing distance available) are not always equal.

An excellent example of this is RWY 35L/17R in KSDF. The published runway distance is 11890'. However there is a runway extension on the north end of 850' and an extension on the south end of 1040' included in this distance.

Also, as stated on the airport page, normal operations depart both 17R/35L from taxiway B. The extensions have to be requested but are available.

The TORA/TODA/ASDA for 17R from B is 10245'. Using the ext the length is 11095'

The TORA/TODA/ASDA for 35L from taxiway B is 10250'. With the ext the length is 11290'.

The only distance published on our our 10-9A Jeppesen airport page is 10245 for 17R. So if using 35L or 17R at full length there would be no way to tell the available distance without referencing the Airport Analysis data.

For landing distance, the extensions cannot be used. Therefore the published Threshold distance for 35L/17R on the 10-9A airport page is 10000', which is the LDA.

Reference "FAA - Declared Distances Update to Airport Design – AC 150/5300-13A" for an excellent discussion of these distances.

Additionally... In the off chance you are thinking about an intersection takeoff; you will never hear a controller state "Takeoff Distance Available". They will only tell you distance remaining. You need to take it from there. That should be another clue...

121 carriers will have intersections listed in their takeoff data if available, at least from what I've seen.

At EWR for example, we would typically get TO data for full length and Golf (right at midfield). We could take any intersection available between the end and Golf, potentially shaving off about a mile of taxiing, by using the Golf numbers.

No numbers = no go.
