Default Pratt 4360

When I was in A&P school (high school vocational), we had a dusty metal can in the back of the shop. One day with not much to do, we removed the lip bolts and removed the top of the container. Inside was a sparkling, never installed brand new 4360. Descecant plugs still in the cylinders and the baffles were glossy black. The splined shaft gleamed as a new part.

Our school was in the West and the can said "Summa Corporation" on the side. Can anybody guess what the purpose of this brand new 4360 was?

As a side note,,, the engine was traded for a Piper Apache. More useful for A&P students the school said. That was a painful trade!

Yep, a spare for the Spruce Goose. Donated to our school after H. Hughes passed away.

Nice list, but somewhere in the top 10 there should be a spot for the JT8Ds, it was definitely more significant to the advancement of aviation than the solar panel thing at #9.

Anybody care to mention their favorites (before looking at the article )

I'm a particular fan of the PT6A-60A at present.
I feel certain that the PT-6 series will be high on the list.
Two of my favorites are the C65 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I36u1KX4zU

and this one:

GE90 Engine Family | Commercial Aviation | Jet Engines | GE Aviation

But I owe my career to the Garrett TPE331. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFW0UxJnSkU
