Not much they can really do unless the company wants to pay for you to go to the doctor to get a note. They tried that last winter and it lasted for about a whole two weeks.

Maybe instead of writing people up they should put some effort into properly staffing this airline...

You can't get in trouble for calling out sick.

And meanwhile, I'm working a trip with a crew that is all coughing and hacking up lungs. Taking planes from crews that hardly have a voice left, used kleenex in the cockpit (fuxing disgusting btw), etc. There's a lot of people that should have called out sick yesterday and today. Pretty much everyone who isn't sick will be from all of these sick people spreading their diseases around here.

And one pilot that we took a plane from yesterday summed it up perfectly, "I would have called sick for this trip, but the whole needing to get a doctor's note of scheduling asks is too much. I'd rather just work than have to figure out where to get a doctor's note on Christmas or spend all day in the ER." There you have it...

I would ASAP and make sure it's noted the company is gorging aircrew to fly when not fit. That got played at my company. We had several pilots on th same day go to the er.. Got full work ups... 100k in bills due to the company.. Along with several asaps that requirement of the company requiring a doctors not is gone....

An urgent care center visit takes minutes.. And if your ears are bothering no doctor would have you fly...

Seriously? First scheduling can't do anything. All they will do is connect you to a Chief Pilot or have a Chief Pilot call you. Only a Chief Pilot can discipline a pilot. Second, its not a big deal. If you are sick enough not to work you should probably be seeing a doctor. All that happens is a Chief Pilot calls you and asks for a note. Every time it has happened to me I already had the note in hand because I had already gone to the doctor. After a CP requests it, now I can stick them with the copay instead of paying for it myself. I have never had a sick call questioned once I produced the note. Its no big deal, unless you are actually abusing the sick call policy and a Doctor refuses to give you a note. Everyone I run into flying sick are not doing it because of this policy, but because they have run out of sick time and don't want to lose the pay.

Defend it all you want, it's still a BS policy. I've had a cold before that caused fluid to build up in my ear and make it uncomfortable to fly. So I called out sick. Having a cold doesn't warrant seeing a doctor, nor should it.

Who here doesn't know someone who has called sick without actually being sick? They know a percentage are calling in sick because they're sick of over working.

Exactly. You ought to listen to some of the tapes of these calls. One time I heard one of a guy calling in sick over the fourth of July and you could hear the boat running in the background and people yelling put the beer in the boat. LOL.

It might if you have something more serious going on. You get a free visit to the doctor to make sure everything is OK. The only people who have a problem with this are those that regularly abuse sick time. Not condemning those that do (abuse sick time), but if you choose to do it be prepared for the consequences.
