Why are pilots striking?

Stick to aviation you’re better at that. In the business world GPA’s are meaningless to employers after the first job. The guy/gal just isn’t a very good hustler.
True story, a good buddy of mine is an accountant for one of the “Big 4” firms. You know how they interview you in that world? After the HR panel one of their rep’s takes you out for drinks on the company’s credit card and they get you absolutely $hit faced to see how you really are to hang out with.
There’s supposed logic behind it. You’re going to be working at a desk next to this person for hours on end. You can drink at the office after 4pm. They want to see if you’re tolerable or not.
A very different world wouldn’t you say?

This is what people didn’t understand decades ago when they thought everyone deserved a college education. For holders of unspecialized degrees it becomes worthless if everyone has one. Just like when u magically print money it becomes less valuable. When I was at Emirates a majority of our FAs had at least a bachelor’s degree, but since it was given away for free in many of their countries it became worthless as a hiring credential.

That’s not an interest payment on your federal loans, it’s just a new way the federal government found a way to tax you. Higher tuition benefits the federal government via higher collection on their interest rates. That’s why they’ll never fix the actual problem.
Congratulations, you played yourself.

That’s the problem with these feel-good platitudes that are everywhere today. Passion has a place at the table, but it’s nothing to bet a career - your second-most important life choice - on.

I understand where you coming from but I would disagree with you, if I didn’t have the love for aviation that I do, I would’ve not made through my ground school. I went to get a degree in business because after high school being a pilot wasn’t a possibility and I wanted to take the easy way, I believe it happened for a reason because I wasn’t as mature as I’m now and I would’ve probably gave up easily but I still don’t regret anything more than not doing my training after high school

I manage recruiting and hiring in a company and the amount of resumes of people I receive apply for a job with starting pay of $12/hr and they have bachelor’s degrees is insane. A lot of the managers at the company I work at have BS degrees and unfortunately after four years of studying and student loans that they will be paying until retirement their salaries are capped at 65k a year and I’m not saying this is bad but they get to number after 10+ years of working and getting mentally abused by customers. The reason I was asking because again from outside looking in coming from my work history and background working at a regional airline now making what the new salaries are for the regionals sounds better than doing the 9-5 CSR job and I wanted to get an insight from people inside of the industry

Well I'm sure this post was trolling, but nobody pointed out that pilots only get paid when the "plabe" is moving. That includes not paid for preflight, post flight, delays, etc.
So if you divide the 96 hours a pilot is gone on a 4 day trip by the optimistic 5 flight hours a day, it comes out to about $19 an hour if they're making $90/flight hour.

Before I get any hate I’m not yet an airline pilot, I’m a student pilot and I have been seeing a lot of strikes recently and I’ve always wanted to ask why? Is it for better pay or benefits? What difference is a contract does? I’m asking because I want to understand. Because from outside looking in, flying airplanes making $90/hr first year doesn’t sound bad at all comparing to having a bachelor’s degree in business, working in customer service getting yelled at by entitled people making $14/hr. I'm looking forward for your responses and having a great conversations about this topic with you guys!
Nothing in the airline industry is given, it must be fought for. You think these airlines pay pilots decent salaries and benefits because they are nice people? Nope - they would take all of it away from all of us in one second if they could, and the only thing that stops them are the organized efforts of unionized pilots pushing to maintain the standards of the profession. Without collective effort, all flying jobs would go to the lowest bidder.
I hope that when you someday get an airline job (if that’s what you want), that the profession is still worth pursuing, thanks to the efforts of those who came before you.
