Are retirements running faster than expected?

Thanks!! Couldn't have said it better!
17 years right seat on the 756. Not 17 years total. If I take a captain bid in September, it will have been 21.5 years right seat total. Mind you my new hire class has held captain 3 times during that 21 years (the first time being way back in '98) but then lost it 2 times as well. 17 years of 756 flying made me totally spoiled as I really dislike the thought of laying over in DSM, ICT, MEX, LIB, etc plus I dislike 3 leg days and I HATE passing through ORD. (I know wrong choice of airline, right??) but EWR 756 pilots can avoid ORD fairly well. Not to mention delays and rescheduling are minimal if you're doing transcons. Honestly, I would be happy retiring doing transcons and never flying international again. That's the great thing about this job . . . something for everyone. Now let's just hope this "accelerated" movement keeps going a few years more before the music stops. Wouldn't hurt if they'd throw in 1-2% fleet growth. Keep waiting with baited breath for the "big" announcement everyone says is coming

Oh how you folks on the coasts hate flyover country. I actually really liked ICT layovers. Old town, minor league ball games right by the hotel all made for a nice and inexpensive layover. Same type of thing with DSM. Good places to eat and a short ride to the airport. If I never have to sit through another Golden Touch ride to and from Manhattan that would be fine with me. With your seniority and the variety of 737 flying in EWR, I would think that you could spent a good bit of the cold weather months in FL / Caribbean. Otherwise just do the LAX-EWR stuff and let the vectors and reduced Mach assignments start right over.....ICT.

Like I said "Somethin' for Everyone"

Joe,
Things are indeed going well at the moment; arguably, the best they've been in my 18+ years. I would like to politely and respectfully suggest that the tone you take in your original post might lack some understanding of others' situations and is in need of a bit more decorum. Specifically in baring your soul to the forum world about this awful dilemma you have.
I'm writing this not because I'm offended or jealous in any way; I'm not. But rather that I'm hoping you won't become one of "those guys" who, out of a lack of perspective and not malice, forgets how good he has it and allows his musings like this to change into complaints.
We can all be very happy with the way things are going at this point in history, but please just don't be the WB Captain who brags about all the senior manning and soft time he gets or the guy who complains to his new-hire FO about how much the annual costs this year on his Baron.
Maybe, as a group, we need to embrace more of the traditional professional norms with regard to compensation. It's not considered acceptable in most other professions to discuss pay. Ironically, in this industry, we all know what the other people in the cockpit make.
Again, nothing personal. Good luck with your decision.

Two lines into your post and I was planning on a posting a Baron pic in my response. I had to scramble when I then saw your reference to the Beech. Nicely done. Wanna see the pics of my new Buddy Davis?
These are the (new millennial) good old days.

Movement that is faster than anticipated is good for everyone and this thread was primarily about that fact and trying to validate whether it was true or not. As a personal aside it means I might finally be able to bid captain with some seniority after more than 2 decades in the right seat. I find sharing that info exciting and hope others are excited as well. In fact, in the cockpit when I tell folks I'm planning on bidding up in the next round or two everyone universally offers congratulations. If someone or anyone for that matter takes that as braggadocio and inappropriate gloating over my personal situation . . . well I'm sorry about that.
If a junior pilot told me they were making Captain at 2 years because they got hired at the beginning of the recent push I'd be ecstatic for them.
At the end of the day this is an internet forum where people share opinions, information, advice and stories for one purpose and one purpose only . . . entertainment. I know, for sure, my particular brand of posting is disliked by many on this and other forums, but it is who I am.
Thanks for the thought though. I'm always keen to hear other opinions

SunVox.....my previous comment was in regards to your goal in the post of 756 left seat and having Christmas off. I sincerely wish you luck in that goal. And I think that would be great! I did not intend anything other than best wishes.
