Interesting info... I wonder if Manpower Planning is "hopeful" that 777 pilots voluntarily jump ship with the 787 base and continue to bid captain slots when they come available on the NBs. I cannot imagine they want to do a surplus on the 777 CA and FO position after standing up the 787... the effects would ripple through all the fleets like a cascade until they hit the 737s. But around here you never know. I have noticed that the number of reserves per day the last week have dropped off a bit... we used to have 30-35 per day and its dropped to 20-25 per day. I'm going to hang and ride this out.

Thanks for your reply- if we were overstaffed by a dozen (after several took guppy captain) then we should theoretically be looking at losing a dozen or so plus what it takes to staff PEK. I'm still not seeing how this equates to displacing 70 pilots with the information we have.

They will get the number down through attrition and vacancy process, if you ask me. There will be another 787 bid that will knock the number down, then throw in a couple guppy bids and they will be there.

6 months from now...I'm guessing 777 DCA : 80 CA / 150 FO and 787 DCA : 45 CA / 80 FO. In the aggregate...that's about what the 777 was at start of year.
