This.

I personally know plenty of former interns that made a difference via their union volunteerism, including our current MEC Chair.

Can't think of an intern in management offhand. (Would not be surprised if there hasn't been at least one. Ever.)

Just thinking out load....it's almost as if the line pilots did a better job of mentoring than the company did.

There are a few but the fact that you can't think of them or haven't heard of them probably is a good thing. Can't fault someone who wants to further their career or experience by being part of management as long as they are fair, doing work to actually help the pilots and are actually leading rather than just managing.

ALPA volunteer work has nothing to do with new hires and pilot hiring.

I think you missed my point. I meant those who have gotten hired have gone into union work (rather than "kiss up to management" as someone alluded to earlier)

Thank God we have never had any ALPA reps "kiss up to management".

Default Hiring pool

Can anyone chime in that has completed this program? I have one year of 121 time and debating leaving the regionals for this program. 18 months and I'm an FO at UAL. Sign me up! I understand all interviews are done upfront which is a plus. My only concern is the use of the language "hiring pool" If I complete my 18 months and am placed in the hiring pool, what would the timeline look like for a class date? I assume this varies with the numbers being hired. Thanks in advance! For all the guys ****ed off about this program, I get it but not looking for your negative response. Although I'm sure I'll still get it.

So you're willing to go back to being a CFI for this? It's not a guaranteed job from what I understand. So if the interview doesn't go well, you're going to have to start all over again at a regional. Plus that whole time, you won't build any turbine or TPIC time.

Are you going to include your 121 experience on your application? If not, you won’t make it. If you do, I bet you still won’t make it. In other words......I’m fairly certain that the hiring department at UAL isn’t interested in hiring people through this avenue who aren’t ab-initio. If you are honest, they aren’t going to like your scheme. If you’re dishonest, that usually doesn’t go too well. I think you should do it and find out. Let us know how it went.

Of course I am going to include my experience. I kind of hear what your saying, but I would hardly call it a scheme. I know a good deal when I see one. I'm seeing on average guys are going to the majors after 4-5 years. Note I said average, some do it sooner some take longer. I would imagine the UAL guys doing the interview know it's not your typical program and would see the logic in leaving a regional for the CPP. I don't know of anything else like it plus I live in Phoenix. So no Commute makes for a happy pilot.

Hogan and interviews with UAL are upfront. I wouldn't leave my current job until I knew for sure. As long as you keep your nose clean for 18 months, life is good. My question to anyone whom knows is regarding the hiring pool language. Recent guys going through only waited 2-3 months after the 18 which is still great time. Historically has the wait time for the hiring pool taken much longer? Or more specifically what is the hiring pool?
