There's probably more to this story. Either he was CAL and wanted to take the junior CAL and not the senior UAL, or he was UAL and didn't want to take the senior CAL. Or the junior guy was a good freind of his.......Either way I can't fathom this kind of boneheadedness.
Or it could be the guy complaining never got a jumpseat form and gave up his seat in back that he was awarded for being senior. In that case he is a bonehead/DB for trying to bump a JSer when he had a seat in the back. If that's the case the CA made the correct call giving the JS to the JR pilot.
So many details missing.......

That's a cheap shot. The Captain went out of his way trying to find guidance in the UPA or FOM. But as we all know; the search engine completely sucks in the IPAD. He defaulted to the COMPANY seniority because it was pushback time. He did not revert to eenie, meenie, miney, moe, he did his best to find the correct answer. You act as if YOU KNOW the answer - good for you; show me. Cut and paste it in your reply. I may be faced with this situation in the future and I want to make sure the correct decision is made.

(It took all of 5 seconds to find using the search function in content locker of the FOM on the iPad.)

There is no "company seniority". There is seniority and longevity.
See the pay scales in UPA section 3. The columns are labeled "Longevity", not "seniority".
See the jumpseat priority table on page 10.60.1 of the FOM. It shows that jumpseat priority is by "seniority", not "longevity".

An easy way to do it, is just go to "reports" and insert pilot's U number. Get his / her seniority number and then do the same with the other pilot. If there is an issue or a concern beyond that I would call the flight office and ask a person there to look it up and tell you who is senior. I would hate to bother the FODM with something like this. But, the reports portion of the CCS website seems adequate and quick. And, I would politely ask the more junior of the two jump seaters to do it for you and ask him/her to show you what the results of the querry are.

UAX doesn't utilize or honor UAL pilot seniority. The date in the future is an arbitrary date just there to always give a bogus answer. It's sort of their default setting that says "you don't matter at UAX". If you were a UAX pilot, I am told your number would be there.
