Just to clarify...do you already work at UAL? I saw a duplicate thread in the AMR section. I assumed that was because of the DCA base. Only reason I ask, I didn't want to waste time explaining how to look in PBS for the answers.

What fleet are you currently in and approximate global seniority?

Already at UAL. Just posted over there to get as much input from those who know the area as possible.

Not sure PBS helps me with the percentage of flying out of the DCA/BWI base though until after I am already out there as I believe PBS only produces "BATs" for the BES you are currently in right?

Currently in 756 and would be bidding somewhere between 50 and 60% by the time I get there (if I do) in BES.

Thanks again.

Cursory look at DCA 756 bid packages in CCS-->Bidding-->Bid Packages for Jul/Aug reveals zero BWI, vast majority Dulles. E Trips shows spreadsheet view of that month and you can sort by dep airport.

Two products on bid package page:

Bid packages (PDF or Word): complete pairing info for every trip that month in that BES, including layover hotels and per diem; and,

E Trips (PDF or Excel): spreadsheet view shows length, credit, start/finish times, layover stations, and a calendar of days it operates. I find it a good way to get a quick look at things before PBS opens and easily see what's going to be available that month. YMMV.

There are lots of guys in Leesburg, VA. Its a short drive to Dulles. Ashburn, VA is supposed to have excellent schools...and I think that is reflected in the home prices.

Which fleet are you on? And would you be senior enough to avoid flying out of BWI?
I moved to Annapolis years ago and would do it again if I was looking to move to the DC region. It has been a great place to live.

I've always thought that Annapolis is a nice area but I also always though it would be too expensive for the average Joe.

I enjoy Annapolis...been here since 2000. It's a good location for flying out of Baltimore. We used to have much more flying out of BWI and there were many months where my whole month of flying would be in BWI. We put our kids in private school. We are not in a good school district where we live. We looked at moving to Severna Park or Broadneck district where the public schools are much better. But it's tricky with the real estate. The prices have gone up so much since 2000 that it's difficult to find a comparable place to what we have now without paying through the nose for it. Then throw in that it would probably be a place that requires a ton of work.

I like being able to walk to Rams Head or McGarvey's or the football stadium. It would be nice to be on the water....but those home are way out of my range.

I miss Annapolis. I don't miss the People's Republic Of Maryland. I much prefer VA. But we couldn't stay because after we fixed up our home and sold it, we couldn't find comparable homes in our price range. Also we couldn't yet afford to send our kids to private schools. If you do find something in downtown Annapolis, you may notice the amount of section 8 housing mixed in. 😳

But I do miss McGarvey's. And the Boat Yard. And the Chart House. And Pusser's. And Ram's Head. And and and......

Mike Ashford sold McGarvey's to a group of former Mids maybe two years ago. I don't get there as often, but I understand the new owners are looking to sell. Drunk Pilot Night on Mondays was always the best. Those days disappeared after 9/11 with MetroJet going away.
