Soooo, is he allowing food in the bunk now that he's actually been in the jet and realizes there is no where else to eat it?

Allowing? Does the captain have control over this? Is the captain also in control over how one sleeps? Which hand you hold your schlong with whilst going potty? How one ties ones tie?

For those without access to the UAL pilot forum, this captain created a sh*tstorm over there because he mandated that this was going to be the rule on his airplane. And yes, the captain does have control over this. I'm sure his policy went over like a lead balloon.

I'm gonna suspect that it quickly became a non-issue after he actually realized that the 777 rest area is totally different than the 747 closet with a couple bunks.

Classic ready-fire-aim.

Funny how that 747 tunnel vision works.

I Captained the 747 at UAL and don’t remember one F/O who wanted to eat in the bunk room. Most would eat before or after their break while seated in the flying seat.

Of course Jerry may have taught the F/Os so well they just didn’t think of it by the time I got to fly with them.

At legacy UAL the B747 fleet was a whole different world.

I'll eat wherever and whenever I want... don't care what the Captain says... not his call.

Unless he's buying!

I once enjoyed Surf n Turf in Guatemala City with a great Captain. Cocktails, bottle of wine, cognac, the whole shebang. I had to twist his arm just to leave the tip.

Of course back then you could get all that in GUA for about 25 US bucks.

It really is amazing how difficult some people make this job.

I'll prob get murdered for saying this, but the only words that make me roll my eyes faster then "that's how it was done on the 400" are "nobody else was hiring in 1984."

smartass children these days.
The 777-300 bunk room has 2 beds, 2 rest seats and a dumb waiter for meals to be sent up so that crews can rest/eat/watch videos in the bunk room... if the Captain attempted to make the "Captain's Authority" response to direct a pilot not to eat in the designated area then he wouldn't be a captain very long. The older 777-200 has a designated seat in the cabin (no so on the 777-300) to use for meals/watch videos)... but that dynamic has changed. Hypothetical question since you think you have all the answers; So if a captain said he can't sleep on a double augmented flight with another pilot in the next bunk can he use Captain's authority to tell the other pilot to leave the bunk area because its a safety issue? Give me a break... this is another instance of a captain (yes small C) overstepping his/her authority. I think you need to rethink your position...
