Default A lie is a lie

Let's call bogus sick leave calls what they are. A lie. Equivocate as you like, "it's a negotiated benefit", I was screwed outta my pension... whatever.

If you are okay with that, don't cry foul when you become the victim of a lie by a company mangt. type, the FAA or your 12 year old daughter- since you taught her by example.

Thankfully, there are thousands of pilots who are honest and carry 100s of thousands of passengers to their families over the holidays.

There are plenty of paper pushing jobs with holidays off, that don't require a lie to get Christmas off.

If you think lying about your health to take a day off your contract doesn't provide for you, at least have the honor to the profession not to justify it on a public forum.

Oh wait, what did I just ask of a liar? To be honorable? Oops.

Yup.

If we are talking about the same airline, guys were falling all over each other to work holidays.

I mentioned this to a SSC member and he dismissed the concept as “manpower negative.” I’m sure he’s correct, but there’s also a crossover point where the QOL improvement for half the group, combined with $$$ for the other half, outweighs the negatives in the big picture.

Maybe a little harsher than my reply, but I couldn't agree more. It's not cool. Why is it hard for folks just to say it's not cool. The evidence says there is a problem. Let's call a spade a spade. There's no need to make it personal. We just need to say "calling in sick on Christmas if you don't really need to is not cool."

To the other point, I also couldn't agree more!! Pay more and the problem will go away.

If we had holiday pay, I probably couldn't hold Christmas ON.

Lots of scabs on the DEN & SFO A320 fleets on both seats apparently as well.

When you get some more free time why don't you research these names for us. Idiot.

What was your job? I NEVER worked Christmas when home, even during workups. Never had a squadron that didn’t shut down over Christmas.

All CONR alert units work 24/7 ops. Now, that the guard reserve does the predator mission they work 3 shifts a day 24/7.

People's sick time and sick calls are their personal business and it's between them and the company. Caution: Don't get caught up in doing the company's job. If management choses to engage and follow up on the holiday sick call folks they can do so without your help.

Clue: ALPA won't be calling anyone out publicly, or busting anyone's balls, so likely line pilots should just mind their own business and not pretend to be management, or a management wanna-be.
