Calling in sick over Christmas was never done in the past. I can't believe the amount of people taking the holiday off.
SRM in some fleets.
That was always taboo....what gives?
(I'm sure every sick call is 100% legit...)
I understand that some people really are sick, but this is ridiculous. If you want the good days off, get senior on something. Or...bid reserve for December.
I'm sure this is going to **** some people off, but it's just not right.

Although I wouldn't "call anyone out", I do think it's ok to say that calling in sick on Christmas if you don't need to is not ok.
I worked almost every Christmas from about '90 to 2009. I remember one year at CommutAir being holed up in Utica NY in a room where the heat wasn't working and the front desk said they had no other rooms so I spent 10 hours in the lobby and skipped a shower in the morning.
Point is, one doesn't need to "call people out" to simply make the point that calling in sick on Christmas if you don't need too should not be considered an ok thing to do. Now having said that I will admit that I had to call in sick on Thanksgiving this year so I know things aren't always what they appear and one can not assume anything until you "walk in the other's shoes".

The news this morning is reporting a widespread and significant uptick in FLU reports. States hardest hit are Texas, Virginia, Illinois, New York, California.......
I know my family was sick over Christmas.

Oh boo hoo, had to work Christmas. Guess what, people fly on Christmas, so somebody’s gotta work. Can’t hold it off, get more senior and shut up. Used to hear people grouse that single guys should work Christmas because “they don’t have families”. It’s just another day on the calendar, plan accordingly. Karma will take care of cheaters.

This year FLU is kicking butt. Vaccine last two years was deemed ineffective. I keep getting the flu shot every year. My wife, who is a Dr. Does not get the flu shot. She also won't let my kids get the flu shot. She may reconsider when she is over 60, but for now she feels the shot is so ineffective it's not worth subjecting your immune system to the other stuff in the vaccine. I got (always get it) the flu shot, and still got the flu. She did not get the flu shot and thus far has not.
On Military leave: It is what it is. Some units have commitments 24/7 weather it's alert or real-time Ops in surv/recon it has to be done, and typically the junior lieutenants get the call.
