Holiday Sick Calls
#112
[QUOTE=tunes;2490835]if someone drops 'fake orders' and drops mil leave without being on some sort of active or inactive status they should be fired. But dropping mil leave and having orders over holidays is by no means abusing mil leave
Agreed. Never said abusing if legit. But it is not all legit. You and I are in perfect agreement.

This thread is lame. Some people call in sick when they’re not. Some mil guys abuse the system. Posting about it on here equates to whining, which is a much more serious breach of conduct. Go to work, do your job, stop worrying about others. Management will do their job, or not......but it sure isn’t yours to watch over the other guys.

I’m not in the reserve or guard, but did have a pretty good undergrad degree that focused on organizational theory, system processes, and some other nerdy stuff. I appreciate that we have lots of guard/reserves at United. Not just because they have volunteered to be on the hook for the next (or current) military events.
The fact that reservists do have to take mil leave, and sometimes in a disruptive way for scheduling, means that the company has to account for that in staffing. I’d estimate that for every 2-5 guard/reserves, they’d have to hire an extra pilot to ensure coverage.
So in essence, because mil guys have to drop orders during high demand times, dozens if not hundreds of pilots at United would not have been hired. The company just wouldn’t have needed the bodies to cover that factor.
I ( or you) might not have the job if there weren’t guys dropping mil leave.
On top of that, sometimes when guys have to drop mil leave, it results in premium pay trips, or trips that get broken up allowing commuting reserves an easy way to finish their silo days.
If you think serving was such a great deal maybe you should have volunteered to serve or not bid reserve over the holidays.
As someone who likes a job, likes picking up premium pay, and enjoys the fact that we have those (including current United pilots) who are sitting in some awful places over The holidays this year trying to prevent the next American soil attack, I will just say thanks.

^^^ This.
Also, a small note for the rocket surgeons insulting our Guard members. IT PAYS LESS! *** SIGNIFICANTLY *** Quite frankly, if someone volunteers to go get shot at and live in Kabul for 6 months, and lose 50 grand in earnings... I'm not going to complain about them having to go, you know, train to protect me or alternatively participate in ops supporting our troops in a war-zone.
Some of you may be forgetting we are fighting on multiple fronts and someone has to:
1. Fly fighters
2. Fly AWACS
3. Fly refueling missions
4. Fly transport missions (like bringing home wounded marines and soldiers)
5. Train to do all of the above (Don't forget you gotta have aircraft supporting the training too!)
6. Sit hot standby incase Vlad gets wacky / 9/11-2 happens.
I can't believe this thread is still alive. People get sick, people have sh!t they have to take care of, deal with it!!!!
You want xmas off? go get a vasectomy Dec 23rd. A lot easier than UPT!

Yes of course, we all know about the courage and hardships our Military forces endure - I understand it well since being deployed to Southeast Asia when I was 19. I get it dude. But lets talk about certain elements of your compadres who have seemed to pry open a few escape hatches in federal law at the expense of fellow workers/vets who chose not to serve in a reserve capacity after active duty. Nobody ever thanked me for my service when I returned from Vietnam or offered me any special considerations because I served. This is completely different now. Lots of respect and in some cases special privileges that I could not even imagine back then. Back in my day, I'd never take advantage of something if it affected my fellow Marine but I guess times have changed for the latest batch of warriors.
Did you not receive G.I. Bill benefits? I considered them a valuable “special consideration”, and took full advantage.
In any event, the long-ago disrespect by Hippies and draft dodgers should not be imputed to “the latest batch of warriors”, who also thank you for your service. They are just complying with the rules they were given, as you and I did. 👍

This may be the problem. If it helps, as a fellow active duty veteran of those years, I hereby thank you for your service.
