Luckily the majority of captains in EWR from both sides are great, but those few bad apples are just over the top bad to fly with, and at 51 I just don't have the patience anymore so I find myself beginning to argue when I'm told to take out the trash or add a second waypoint to VNAV so VNAV doesn't miss the crossing restriction, or they put their hand on the flap lever to subtly tell me it's time to extend flaps, or the best yet, the captain that explained why the world doesn't actually rotate and all the science that says otherwise is just there because the devil is trying to fool us (I'm not kidding - he really said that and also gave me a lesson on why Israelites aren't really "God's Chosen". - and yes pro-standards knows all about him )

Heaven help me, but I hope when I'm 60 something I don't become like that!!
Or my favorite from a recent 777 trip climbing through 12,000, craptin "It's less than 10c and we are in the clouds!!!!" Me, "yep". craptin, "WELL YOU'D THINK AN INSTRUCTOR WOULD KNOW THAT WE'VE GOT TO TURN ON THE ENGINE ANTI ICE!!!!"
Me "uhhhhh nope, its in auto."
craptin "Well an LCA told me to never trust auto EAI on the 777."
Me, "Whats his name? I'll be sure that he gets a firm talking to about not transferring procedures from the 767-400 to the 777."

The stuff that comes out of the training center is just amazing.

I've heard people generally say they are horrible to fly with. I'm just curious what the specifics are. Can you relay a good story on the EWR-types?

I flew with quite a few scabs both on the 80 and the 77, a lot of odd personalities but honestly the vast majority fine to fly with, flew SOP, no issues at all.

He is actually much safer to the flying public in the 777. Now he has 3 people to scrutinize every move he makes.
