Exactly. And yes, ropestart. The painful thing was there would be a 747-400 taking off 2 hours later, same route with 3 pilots and they each got about a 3 hr nap.

Didn't really matter though, I got to fly and land every other leg and flew mostly with Pan Am dudes...

It really was a great time in my career that I still feel fortunate to have experienced.

Oh my that’s brutal. That reminds me of a World Airways mishap in BWI. It occurred after a 10+ hr flt in a DC-10. An all nighter across the pond, the capt was basically in a daze on final and planted it in so hard it sent FAs to the hospital. I don’t think that aircraft flew again.

It might still be there--was for at least a decade on the south side of the airport. The only way it was going to move was with a blow torch and a couple of flatbeds.

Yeah, they’re landing and taking a nap around 11pm central when legacy pilots are just showering to go in to work on the west coast. 7 hours later when they overfly MEM/SDF, they’re just taking off after a 3-4 hour nap as the pax guys are hanging in their straps missing calls heading east!

Honestly, I bet legacy red eye flyers probably have more night time than freight dogs, the night hub turns are only for 8-12 nights a month.

How many red eyes do you think we do per trip? I’m a west coast guy and begin every work week with a red eye (by choice) which flows into normal PM flying. That’s amounts to 4 red eyes per month, usually.

I'm a west coastie and don't fly any red eyes. Unless of course I am getting double pay or have a hankering for some tacos.

There's no going back now . . . Guess I should start brushing up on my French

Interesting, looking over the last couple bids WBFO is starting to go more senior than NBCAP in some places. Honestly after a decade of night flying to far away places, I'm done. I get the allure, but honestly I think that WB stuff takes it's toll on the body.
