What does Allegiant bring to the table for a merger? I don't see the benefit. They are really not a competitor. I would think right now we would want to "eat" a competitor, or buy something that would fill a hole in the network, like a hub in the SE US.

Acquisitions are mergers. Just like when UAL acquired CAL they “merged” and CAL shareholders were given UAL stock in place of their CAL stock. I’m guessing any Allegiant “acquisition” would be all-cash though. It would still be a merger because those assets would be “merged” into UAL, just like we were assimilated into UAL from CAL.

Who ever said a merger has to be about eliminating competition?

It’s been proven that sometimes it’s needed because organic growth can’t be achieved.

SW and AirTran, UPS and Challenge, etc.

I've got an interview for May 8th so they are still looking at growing. Obviously don't know when class may be (if I'm blessed enough to be hired), but some recent new-hires were getting fall classes.

Probably so.

But I wouldn't equate interviewing/hiring with growing.

Recalls plus new hires for 2018 only nets aboutt 200 additional bodies after retirements. 200 bodies which could have been used LAST YEAR.

So far the 5 classes this year have accounted for roughly 25-30% of 2018's hiring/vacancy fill projection.

2017 only netted about 100 additional I believe.

All info regarding future classes subject to change by the time this comment gets submitted ..

Tiggerpilot, are you interviewing with UAL or Allegiant? Curious which one your post was in reference to. Thanks and good luck

Be careful what you wish for. You'll be on reserve for a LONG time on a stagnant fleet. Guppy or Fifi would give you a much better QOL for basically the same $$. Just sayin'. Good luck and welcome aboard. 😎
