30+ years of flying a B737 sounds really tough. That’s definitely something to consider for a potential newhire.

This cannot be overstated. While some like the monotonous 73 flying, the vast majority probably want options, be somewhat challenged, not have your brain turn to mush having not learned anything new in 30 years, see different places, etc. The advantages Southwest had for many years are mostly gone. Different times.

If you’re the aviation equivalent of Tom Brady, and I’m sure you’re better looking, which team do you want to play for?
But, but, our current CEO can beat up your current CEO. So there's that.

United. I’d rather play for UAL if I was starting over.

I’m 16 years into it and have wet dreams about being able to bid a different fleet type.

THIS! Honestly, 30+ years on a Guppy is enough to make one think unhealthy thoughts. It seems that most SWA pilots are throughly burnt out at 10 years in.

As long as they don't have to marry a 737 it seems like they're ok with it.

I still fly with guys who cite the fact they weren’t furloughed 15 to 20+ years ago while their buds at UA, DL, and AA got furloughed as reason number one for reflexively voting yes and for recommending that people come to SWA. It’s like orienting our entire national defense policy today around deterring Japan because Pearl Harbor happened 80 years ago.

And the 737 flying thing? Ya, I am way more than burned out on the 737 and the type of regional-plus flying that SWA does. It’s mind-numbing.

Mind-numbing. Now there’s the perfect description of it. But hey…..at least the cockpit is cramped and noisy!
