It’s been 10 years since the last economic downturn, 17 years since the one before that and 27 years since the one before that. It seems as if we as an industry have developed a case of collective amnesia. Or it could be the case that some of us were not looking for jobs or employed by the majors before 2010, and therefore may not have a personal point of reference. When economic times are good, every major has its advantages/disadvantages, but overall, they’re all good places to be. Not so when times are rough. This is one of the longest bull markets ever. It’s going to end one day and signs are pointing to that day of reckoning being sooner rather than later. The old adage that “when the economy catches a cold, the airline industry gets the flu” has never been proven wrong. I know, I know...”this time will be different”...pilot shortage and all. But in addition to what’s been said over the last 18 pages about pbs/hard schedules, pay, productivity, QOL, etc., the one question I always ask in reference to this debate is:
Where would you rather be when economic times are bad? Which when given a 30+ yr career, at some point, they’re bound to be.

Resign from a major prior to sims
How bad is it to resign from a major after an indoc course, prior to any sims or testing...and still be hirable in the future? I'm receiving a paycheck currently from the company I wish to resign from.
