I was on reserve about 18 months. Only this year did I switch to the Bus, and that was because ORD (my home) on the 756 was becoming ubër senior with wave after wave of guppy refugees. Otherwise, loved the airplane(s) and variety.

My point here is if you’ve got a Midwest/East coast guy who’s going to commute anyway, maybe the 756 isn’t a bad call. I can’t imagine you’d be stuck in SFO very long before you could transfer to EWR.

Sfo756 does none of that flying. They’ll be doing redeye transcons to EWR 90% of the time. I wouldn’t touch it as a new hire either.

Try re-reading the 2nd paragraph I wrote. I understand the SFO flying sucks. If they’re thinking they’d like to end up in EWR, it’s not a bad gig at all.

Yup.

So you’re telling me this kid is more qualified than a career mil guy who just isn’t current?

No, and there’s no point losing sleep over this. Also a high-ish timer when hired here. The company hires plenty of retired mil, 10-15k+ hr regional people, etc. Every single company also takes some low time, young pilots. The only thing we can hope is they vet them well.

Here we go with the 23 year old versus military buddy who hasn’t gotten called.

It’s been beaten to death, its out of our internet Keyboard control . Hopefully your friend gets a call soon for those who didn’t .

To the 23 year old man I am jealous and envious . Congrats and enjoy the ride .

Had his Dad in the jumpseat. Nice guy, told me how hard his son worked to get here. I’m happy for the kid but that comment made me throw up in my mouth a little....
