We have hundreds of pilots at United that were hired below the age of 25........Get over it. All those '78 hires that are sitting at the top of our list right now, guess what? 23 or less with no experience . Alot of the 570, alot of the Scabs, Hell CAL hired a ton of young pilots in the 2000's. Im not seeing smoking holes anywhere.

The “it’s my turn, that’s not how I did it, or that’s not fair” mentality that some people have isn’t going to go far. Once you meet the minimum standards your name is thrown into the same hat. This guy may not have had a 20 year military career or have been a jet captain for the last 10,000 hours, but he did meet the minimum requirements. He’s going to be put in a class, he’s not going to be given any slack, and he will most likely do a good job and enjoy a great career. He didn’t endure years of paying dues like many of us did but life doesn’t always fit your definition of fair. I say good for him. If I had been given the chance when starting out I would have jumped at it and avoided some pain. It’s not like he crossed a picket line to get the job. As far as I’m concerned his integrity is intact.

Paying dues is relative. I spent the better part of a decade at a regional flying props and jets and thought I'd paid my dues. But then I fly with guys who lived in tents during the Gulf War or graduated from Top Gun and feel like I didn't pay enough. Who cares. The best criteria, and what I guess United hiring has concluded, is attitude and a willingness to learn and succeed. |
I’m just glad that there’s one more guy on the list behind me.
Keep ‘em coming! |

A jet's a jet. That was the average qualification for regional newhires 10-15 years ago. Less, even.

No smoking holes anywhere? At all? None? There have been NO crashes since 1978? None? Zero? Not one crash whatsoever anywhere with a US major airline or its regionals? Really? None???? Wow.
It's correct: UAL has not experienced a pilot related hull loss since 1978. |
