Looking at this from a junior pilot perspective (without a class yet), I’m guessing that if someone gets a class soon, and the Max pipeline then restarts, there will be a deluge of additional junior pilots starting classes shortly after? Is there available throughput for that theory?

The company seems to think that they have plenty of availability on the 737 side when it starts back up. The big question will be delivery schedule after the max return to service.

Good luck.

As someone who was in one of the last groups to go through the 737 program as a new hire I would say yes. During training we were told that on any given day there were anywhere from 20-30 instructors on reserve and sim time was not much of a problem. In fact, the later in the day periods were not being used. The throughput is there in my opinion, they are just waiting for the MAX to come back.

Yeah, getting close to 4 months in the pool and it looks like it’ll be 6 before I’m out? I’m hoping they announce some November classes soon as I think I barely missed the 15 October class.

737 is all one category, so if you pick it, you’ll be flying -700, -800, -900, -900ER, Maxxx

Ah, ok got it. Thanks.

I'm going to continue peppering this board with questions... How senior is Houston? I currently live in Destin, FL and the old lady likes it (I do also). There are a few direct options to get to Houston, but not all that many. Wondering if it's feasible to expect it within a couple years or not?

Ah the old IAH dilemma. Is it possible in the first year, no. In first 5 years probably. The situation you will find yourself in is this. After a year on property in a junior, coastal domicile I can routinely hold 16+ days off and weekends off. I still cannot hold IAH. By the time I am eligible to hold IAH as a bottom of the barrel reserve guy, do I really want to? If you live in IAH, then reserve in base isnt bad. But commuting from Niceville to IAD/EWR and having a sweet schedule to then commute to IAH for a shorter commute only to be super junior isnt a winning combo in my mind. Just my 2 cents.

I feel like this thread was meant for posting CJO, class dates and assignment drops etc. Seems like a lot of questions should go somewhere else.

So you and your wife love Destin? Of course you do, who doesn’t? BUT...and you’re not going to want to hear this...working for UA and flying out of VPS will not be easy! For DL pilots sure, but not us. You’re looking at a 2 leg commute to reserve. With the first leg on an RJ! Connecting out of IAH to another hub (as with most hub to hub flts) will also be a stressful process. Flts are routinely full. IAH based, of course, would be ideal and you could score a base trade in your first year, as others have. Question, have you read up about life on reserve at UA? What you’re asking for will be an extended period of time on reserve.
Obviously you’re a mil dude. If you have a reserve job then you’re anchored. But if you’re retired...QOL may dictate a move. Your first year will not be easy, don’t get caught out of position!
