When I took a friend to one of these it was mentioned to highlight what may be missing in your resume or what negatives you have in your background that their endorsement would help get you over the top. In this environment most highly qualified applicants are getting offers. Why aren’t you? Short of PIC/turbine time…How are you working on that? Failed checkride? Explain it, own it and how it made you a better pilot/leader. Low GPA…why? Etc….

I had a M&G scheduled for April 7th but got a call the end of last week that there was a cancellation and I was offered this Thursday (24th). Which I'm obviously taking. In the e-mail, attire to be worn was "uniform or business casual". Some of the advice I got from current UAL pilots is that it never hurts to wear a suit. I've read this thread and saw a few people mention to NOT wear a suit. So, which one is it? I'm sure I'm overthinking it but I don't want wearing a suit to blow up in my face ("you can't follow basic instructions??"). I'm going to EWR if that makes a difference in the advice.

I’d go with what is specified in the email. Mine specifically mentioned business casual, so that’s what I wore.

The LAX meet and greet was enjoyable and very low threat. My sponsor introduced me and was asked why I’d be a good fit at UA. From there, we talked about my history for a bit and had a conversation about flying, road bikes, and other random stuff. They want to get to know you and assess your personality. I brushed up on my United history beforehand and tied it into my “why United” explanation. Be professional and relax… Try to enjoy it!

I know it’s hard to do…I’ve been there…but UAL is a straight shooter. They are not trying to trick you. If they tell you to wear a uniform or business casual, take them at face value. You won’t get extra points for showing up in a suit. You might get the opposite because you didn’t follow their directions. Don’t overthink it. They want to hire you. If you are invited for a M&G then they want to meet you. They vet people before offering M&G’s.

Agreed- this is not a trap. Unlikely you’ll “lose points” for wearing a suit, but you definitely won’t get docked for wearing what they tell you to. Obviously, you have to follow their lead, but these tend to be pretty relaxed events & I’m guessing they set the dress code to try to foster that environment. (Most likely they include uniform not to inconvenience you in case you’re commuting in off a trip.) Be memorable, just not in what you wear.

Thanks for your input. I'm taking the advice and wearing business casual. Earlier in this thread people were saying that they hadn't heard anything back after the M&G for months. Is there any new insight on that matter? I know I'm going to go crazy checking my e-mail so it would be nice to get a recent report.

Thanks for the guidance! Does anyone have recent intel on how long it's been taking to hear back/ receive a Hogan after the M&G? I know it's not a guaranteed interview but I don't want to drive myself crazy by checking my e-mail 37 times a day.
