If we have guys agreeing to that crap as a condition of becoming an LCA, I wonder how loyal they’ll be when ALPA asks them to take a stand and defend the profession.
if you’re comfortable making a PA to the pax in the gate area to inform I see that as leadership. Not comfortable, not an issue. We either lead, or we follow. You want industry leading… just my perspective. The pax see us as leadership. They’re trusting their lives and future with us. I don’t think it is unreasonable to speak to them directly if you’re comfortable doing so. Regardless, please keep them informed. |
To be clear….again……I think that interacting with the pax when it comes to informing them of things that happen outside the expected scheduled situation…..is solid professionalism. Making EVERY welcome PA in an overly visible way….is obnoxious showboating. Just my opinion.
I’m also not blaming the LCAs. The push seems to be from above that level. |
I never had any LCA corner me, much less ask or suggest I make a PA from the door on IOE, but maybe my information is dated. My IOE was spread over 5 different LCAs (well, one was “The Fed”) and 3 months in The great OE Quagmire of Late 2021.

I just don't understand the push on this. I have always thought the vast majority of pax see us pilots as nothing more than the bus/uber driver taking them to where they need to go. Can anyone point me to any evidence or examples that say that we matter that much that people want to see our faces in front of the entry door making PA's.

I think you lost sight of what we are trying to do here. We exist because we have passengers. Your fight, and mine, with management doesn’t quite yet involve the passengers. If you’re questioning the resolve of the LCA group, perhaps reach out to your LCA that did your qual? Do you really think that the LCA group is the enemy?

We’re not keeping what’s most important at the top of our collective priority list, at least as far as what we emphasize publicly. And make no mistake, this is a concerted effort by labor relations to get “their pilots” to buy into these initiatives. It’s just disturbing as hell to have the little time we have with an evaluator/LCA wasted on this stuff. Guys don’t know what’s in the FOM, but hey, they make announcements at the gate! |
So I did my M&G a few days ago in ORD. Things seemed to go really well. Has anyone heard anything recently who did one of the M&Gs? Any timelines from M&G to Hogan, out of curiosity?

Did mine in another base last month and it was a week later I got the assessment. My app was on file for a couple years so probably not a coincidence.

Are you at a regional that flies for UA by chance? Wondering if that could be hurting my chances. UA has evidently slowed down hiring from places like OO and YX from what I’ve been told by others who have “spoken to recruiter friends” so that’s why I ask.

Lets just say that I have it on good authority that they are indeed still hiring from UX carriers. As far as whether that has slowed down, I could not tell you as I don’t have the data.
