You would be incorrect. The regionals because of their low pay which results in low dues end up being subsidized. I personally have no problem with that but some do.

Hard to justify doing single engine taxi's if company pursuing the whipsaw-lose money RJ model.

We subsidize regional MEC''s negotiating committees as well as other union functions. According to ALPA attorneys at MEC meetings, they do admit it's a conflict of interest. It's on the record. We can see the whipsaw effect. It should be easy to see. Ask Jim Johnson he can brief you on it.

Complete and utter BS. The majors and all airlines' pilot groups negotiate their own scope and better regional contracts reduce network carriers' incentive to outsource.

Meanwhile, the low regional pay/cost structure helps subsize our PS.

Although Jeffrey did make a big stink about it in his final days.

“Sourcing costs” (regional feed cost increase) was an excuse for something/poor quarterly performance he was trying to weasel his way out of on an investor call or board meeting or something.

So, in your opinion if airline X is chasing the same revenue stream as Airline Y that's cool?

Both airlines represented by the same union....

One member pays about 5-6K a year in dues, and the other not so much.

Talking about DUES dollars

Thus far, we haven't dis-incentivized the penchant to outsource. We still see the whip saw and we still see management pursuing it.

Just so you know. The major airlines MEC's send money to ALPA National. ALPA National sends a portion of our dues money to regional carriers affiliate unions.

Last time I spoke with my rep about this (radical thought, I know), it was described as "protecting the flank."

Do we want to do this? No

Would it be a worse idea to not do this? Yes

No shiite, and it is in all our best interest. Regardless, your contention that ALPA attorneys said it is a conflict of interest is complete BS.

We have to be very careful about it. Yes and No. Sometimes it works and sometimes No. The MEC's don't decide how the money gets spent by the regionals (IE the UAL MEC won't have a say). It's an ALPA National function at the Executive Council Level.

I haven't been very impressed with our ability to protect our flank. I think the out-sourcing issue should have been fully resolved 3 to 4 years ago. We don't have tactical or strategic control of the regional MEC's and their goal setting. They do polling etc as well. They set their own contract goals. I've been talking to a few regional FO's on the jump seat. Some of these folks would love bigger RJ's. So, gotta be really careful.
