You won’t have enough energy left to mash your teeth by mid summer. The best you can hope for is a mild whimper.

That is living the dream. Commuting sure complicates things, but that was my choice. Even with flying a junior F/o line, life on a WB is less hassle than junior NB captain. One long leg where you sleep for at least 1/3 of the flight, nice layover, and repeat. You can usually complete your hours in 12 days, less chance for scheduling to mess with you, senior crews, less drama, low stress. The only negatives are that the time zones can be tough on your body if you don’t learn how to plan your sleep, and you will go to landings every 90 days (low paying trip). That sure beats up and down flying, inefficient trips, dealing with the weather more, plenty of chances for scheduling to mess with your schedule, airport appreciation delays, multiple bag drags for short layovers, imbedded red eyes, briefing numerous crews every day, dealing with passengers,..........

Sounds pretty nice when you put it that way! I’ve never been able to sleep well on planes. But then again, I’ve never been able to lay down in a bunk, in a quiet and comfortable cabin either. I hear not all 777’s have bunks? Or maybe I made that up in my head. The voices are always lying to me.

IAD seems to have more movement than somewhere like DEN or IAH. If you can’t sleep on a plane, long haul will kill you. If you don’t like the 777, you could always upgrade to NB captain, but reserve on that isn’t any fun either. If I was in your place (only because you said that you have trouble sleeping on planes), I’d wait until I was above the g-line for NB captain before bidding the 777. If you don’t like it, you can upgrade into a line. Even if it isn’t your cup of tea, WB reserve in base would be great. I’d rather suck it up and fly one double red eye South America trip per month on reserve rather than fly a line as a NB captain, but that’s just me. I’m not here to fly airplanes or be concerned about which seat I occupy, I’m here for maximum pay vs minimum effort.
