Default FO to CAP (same A/C) uograde training

If going from 756 FO to 756 CAP, is it a full course? Does it make a difference if it’s your first time CAP bid on any A/C?

If there happens to be a short course, what is the training footprint?

Thanks!

Unless things have changed it should be a full course.

If you have never been a Captain at UAL then you do not want a short course. You may find that 6 foot move to the left not quite as easy as you think it is.

I can't speak for the 756, but just went through short course on the bus. They started doing the short courses about six months ago.

From going through it and talking to other upgrades at TK, if you have been on the airplane for more than a couple years, the short course is a hair too short and the long course is too long. My main complaint about the short course is the constant seat swapping as a paired crew. It is hard to get into a CA mindset when you spend half your time back in the right seat. The long focuses too much on new hire stuff (LOTS of time spend on basics, how to read a flight plan for example).

I ended up liking the short course, which is 18 day footprint VS 27 or something for the long, but wish there were more LOFTs. There are three and since you are a paired crew, one person may only get one LOFT in the left seat prior to the QLOE. Every IP encouraged requesting more LOFTs even if we didn't need them. With that said, I have heard 756 school is a whole different beast than Airbus school.

If you are put into the short but want the long, email JC and he will swap it for you no questions asked. Hope that helps.

Did the 737 short course 3 years ago. It was fine.

Who or what is JC to email? I think the long course is the way to go. Might be longer but you get enough sims under your belt. Thanks for the info!

Default Full answer

Got the full answer back finally from DEN Training Center.

The short course to CAP is only on the 320 and 737. The FO must have at least 1000 hours on the A/C and current in the seat. If prospective CAP wants the long course, they can request and talk to Fleet Management first, but it's not automatic by request.

The order of training may be affected by the short course, since Staffing plays the biggest factor in it.

wonder if that’s at any airline. I jumped the trash bag last month only 430 hours as a copilot on the 320 at united (2100ish on the 756) but had 3500 hours on the bus at JetBlue.

Has to be from UAL only.

Well hmm not sure how i got the short course then. Also of note when I came to the Airbus from the 756 a few years ago I was told I didn’t need to consolidate something to do with already having the type and/or more then 100 hours. I asked several times and was told it’s an FAA thing and not airline specific.

They gave you 1 hour credit for every 6 times you cleaned the cabin at B6.
