I’m not sure what clipboards other dudes are using. I use a modified mini clip board that weighs less than my Telex headset.

Was waiting for that. The crew meal is not out the entire flight. While it does have some weight behind it, the water bottle doesn't have the semi sharp edges as the metal clip and is not out in the open like the clipboard. The phone is another can of worms that I'm not going to get into. Can't argue with the Joe's international clipboard being out in the open. Especially when it's resting eye level above the MCP.

The main reason I don't like it is because it's a huge PITA. When I want to look at something, I've got to rifle through the stack and open the clip. Reversing the process when done is adding insult to injury. There's enough blank space on the console to set the few papers.....we actually need. Throw them away when you don't need them anymore. Why guys feel they need to carry the service sheet, TODM, departure atis, etc the entire flight is beyond me.

Also, why do some take all the NECESSARY paperwork and clip it to their yoke or hide it on their side of the cockpit? One shouldn't have to continually ask for something or strain their eyes across the cockpit for information.

If you’re the F/O it would be super polite if you asked the Captain if he wouldn’t mind you using it. I don’t like them but if a co-pilot wants to and asks, knock yourself out.

All of which are temporarily in the cockpit or on the floor beside a bag. Don't get me going on phone usage. Can't argue with Joe on the other one. The clip board described is laying on the center console the entire flight. The semi sharp clip could do some serious damage.

It's also a PITA. Having to sift through the pieces of paper, pull it out of the clip and then having to return it is too much work. There's plenty of blank space to lay the paper needed. Notice I said needed because we don't need the TODM, service sheet, departure atis, etc for the entire flight.

While I'm at it, why do some feel the need to hide all the papers on their side of the cockpit either on their yoke clip or by the iPad?

The pilot in the right seat is a "first officer" not a "co-pilot." At least on the ground. In the air they’re the "pilot flying" or the "pilot monitoring."

Probably less than the EFB that comes detached from the weak mounting on either sliding cockpit window.

Or the serving tray & silverware from the crew meal.

Or any number of other things on the flight deck that may come loose and get tossed in severe turbulence.

It's about 4"x6" and weighs a few ounces. There's a lot of other stuff that can/will do more damage.

Don't worry, if you're the Captain and you want me to stow it in my flight bag I will, you're not gonna hurt my feelings. I'll just get out the ol' strap-on kneeboard from my fighter-attack days. 😉

Clipboard people stand at the bottom of escalators reading where baggage claim is.

I use one of these very small clipboards.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Keeps the paperwork organized, gives support for writing, and is small enough to stay out of the way.

But why? What do you ever print that you need to look at again that isn’t saved in the ACARS?
