Age 67+ Discussion

It looks like some of our brethren over at Delta are proposing to eliminate a mandatory retirement age. Their Council 54 (Seattle) and now the Council in LAX are proposing resolutions at the LEC level. My sincere hope is that this gets shot down immediately!!! No fly till you die!!!

The juice isn't worth the squeeze. Removal of the age ceiling would require (as they allude to) more stringent focus on medical and cognitive testing, meaning now a pilot of ANY age could face an earlier end to their career. So a handful of pilots would get to fly well beyond 65 and I'm guessing far more might get their career cut short at say 58...

I don't think it gets them what they think it gets them...

I’m at DL, never heard a peep of this.

It was tried last year and voted down. I fully expect it to go nowhere again this time. Not that it really matters anyway, we pilots have no say in this. If the regulators want it, it will happen...if they don't, it won't. AESA, very recently, reaffirmed their stance of opposing the age increase so I don't expect to see an increase anytime soon.

He speaks the truth. Some of our guys have proposed this and it's on the agenda for the Jan SEA LEC meeting.

How’s it working for Canada, Australia,Japan and Panama?

How old is former Delta captain, now FAA administrator Dickson, btw? 63 I think.

Sure, convince that old fart he’s too old to fly a jet without a physical and cog test.

Airlines have a big problem. FAA is here to help. Maybe Dickson reached out to his old pals at DL.
