Yes, I understand the difference. Do you understand that if nothing is asked for, nothing will be given, whether it be grants, loans, loan guarantees, or any other form of temporary assistance.

I'm not worried about this; I've got a big rainy day fund and have been furloughed twice before. If I get furloughed a third time, so be it.

The government taxes the crap out of airline travel and the government shut down a lot of routes. But sure, the airlines should bear the entire burden of this in spite of the credit markets being pretty much locked up right now.

And if you think all airlines declaring chap 11 means that they'll all emerge from it without some going chap 7. Even with government assistance, there's likely to be some airlines that go chap 7.

When the government tells your company to stop operating? The answer is yes.

Interesting that those numbers from the last few years appear to make UAL management look like the smallest of the 4 pigs at the trough. Do we have the Doctor to thank for that?

Right now watching the miniseries on Netflix: 'Roman Empire'. If you're a history buff, it's awesome.
I wish I had watched it before our vacation in Rome (and northern Italy) a couple of months ago.

They're all pigs at the trough. I've sent some recommendations to my ALPA reps on ways to reduce/stop this behavior in the future.

Question: Do you think that the rest of the United employees view pilots any differently than we are currently viewing top management?
I have no problem with the criticism of top management, but realize that our coworkers can/will quickly pivot and make pilots the next target of their wrath. Remember the Summer of Love and C2K. With that in mind, I recommend that 'full pay to the last day' not be something said by pilots to lesser paid coworkers.
Bottom line: While top management may be the first target of wrath, it can quickly pivot to other highly paid employees. And the only other highly compensated group in this industry are the pilots. We make more than middle managers.

Good post. In fact, we (our captains) make more than director level management in departments outside of flight operations.
