A. Do you want address that you misrepresented my opinion?
B. I understand that signaling a willingness to modify our contract is not good. But in the end that’s still a strategy we believe in, it’s not “end of discussion.” Why avoid having discussions?

C. Where have I indicated that I’m short of information? In my posts I try to steel-man the opposing arguments and the response is often incredibly short and ends with “not up for discussion.” I don’t think it looks like I’m short in thought or information

You took him out of context...the jab was not necessary. Anyhow, aren’t you riding off into retirement sunset soon?

I didn't misrepresent anything, you said "In it, fear and skepticism are dress up as wisdom." You are completely off base and are not going to convince anyone who has been in this game for a while that you have any idea what you're talking about...including me.

Let me know how that works out. I don’t mean to sound heartless, but we should not open the contract, even in an attempt to save pilots from furlough. You would get about as many voting for what you propose as you would people actually contributing to a GoFundMe page.
you’re probably right on that front. However, the same could be said about social security. That is not a front loaded fund, we are currently subsidizing the retirement of millions of people who have adequate savings. If a go fund me page was started for ‘boomers, I don’t think you’d have too many takers, but make it a policy issue that people can vote for and the Public outlook is different.

joeP, dude, we may have different opinions, but that doesn’t make me uninformed or unaware of historical industry precedent. The “he’s dumb, this is already figured out, F management” sounds more like reality TV epithets than intelligent debate... which to me, is the purpose of a “forum.”

at the end of the day, I’ll happily have a coffee and discuss any contentious issue with somebody. Maybe we just learn that we’re better off sticking to cars, motorcycles and or home-improvement projects.

Call it whatever you want but what you are proposing has zero chance of becoming reality.

well, in the spirit of disagreement ;-) there’s about 5 of us on here who support it ..... probably 45 who vehemently oppose.... so give us charitable 10% odds

Thanks to those who have shared intelligent, merit-based responses.
I didn't say you were a management plant. I made it very clear that you're in Aviate, which is not much different in terms of cutting the line to get hired than being an intern.

We all know it so don't pretend like you're not on the short path to getting an interview with United. THAT'S your motivation to post this stuff.

As far as not liking what you're saying, I've heard that stuff before. You fail to understand how a lower MPG will be used against us because you haven't flown the line at United.

You're a 2015 hire, right? You haven't been screwed over enough times to think of the ways this could be used against us.

I can think of more than a few ways the rank and file pilots get burned with a lower MPG. But I have no reason to write them down because this idea is dead on arrival. Period.

The bold quote was his, not mine. I'm happy to wait for the judge.

haha, did something happen to the aviation industry around 2001 or perhaps 2008?? I hadn’t heard! When I jump-seated on united planes, usually we just talked about how well they were doing and how good their home situation was. Then, when I was stuck at a regional, I didn’t think much about my inability to support a family.... I just thought, ya know what my resume needs: another couple thousand hours of RJ time!!!

All snarky-ness aside, it’s not a lack of info that I possess, or a belief that Mr. Kirby, et al are my buddies.... I just see this issue differently than you. A common human fallacy is that “if only the person knew what I do, they’d think as I do.” Just not the case man. We have different views on this topic, but it’s not because I wasn’t affected.
