Roughly 1/3. The company had sent out over 2800 furlough notices, but had threatened nearly 4,000, and on at least one occasion, hinted at nearly 50%; so how big you consider the “lifeline group” to be depends on who you believe.

One of the issues no voters point to with the UAL contract is that it sought to address issues beyond just limiting furloughs- like preventing downgrades/displacements- which resulted in certain pockets of our ranks benefiting from this contract out of seniority order. Yes voters will point out that it is always possible to do better than others out of seniority order, so they don’t consider it a concern.

Our agreement passed with less than 60% in favor, so you’ll find a lot of disparate opinion on whether it was the right call.

To the OP. What are you giving congratulations for? All of these agreements are like telling a cancer patient “congratulations you only have stage 3 cancer, but be glad your not dead yet”. Not something to be paraded around. Thousands of pilots now making 50% or less of previous wages. All in the name of “equality and fairness”. Congratulations is the wrong word I think.

Congratulations is the perfect word. Just ask any AA brothers and sisters on the street. And hundreds more on Tuesday.

Congratulations to the hard working ALPA members and pilot group that saved so so many careers. That provided food and shelter for hard working individuals in the worst job market Imaginable. Congratulations all.

I understand the ire when one compares what they get with what somebody junior is getting (if more). But, sans an agreement, and resulting furloughs wouldn't ALL remaining pilots have felt the suck? Especially since you are relatively wide body heavy compared to say Delta( narrow body gonna recover more quickly. An AA 777 and a DL 350lax to SYD at same time have a combined total of 30 peeps .Yikes...that sucks a loaf factor of 5%. Yea I know ...but ....but...cargo! Until and or if we remake ourselves , we are all 3 pax carrier pilots.

Sorry, still not understanding the "life line eating caviar " when they are mostly getting 35 hours(unless I am misunderstanding)

Congratulations. You use to make 100k and I now cut your pay to 50k. But hey its better than zero so eat it. Only in aviation is that a “congratulations”. What an apathetic group we pilots can be at times. So sad some see this as a congratulations event.

Its better than zero but its not something to parade around about.

42% voted no. This was not a choice for a lot of our pilots.

Speaking of charity, if we do end up with furloughed pilots in June, we should vote again on the furlough fund. A lot has changed since we voted on the furlough fund.
