United wants to make covid vax mandatory

There you have it.
Is everyone going to line up for this or are there going to be some vacancies as a result? God forbid you want to make a choice for your own body. Nope. We own you.

SK has made it clear he might want to make them mandatory but it won't be happening soon. Every employer has the right to mandate vaccines with precedent as support. And you can be fired for not getting one unless you fall under a few exemptions. I'm glad we are going this route

And basically, the likelihood of any employer successfully requiring mandatory vaccination while these vaccines are still under an EMERGENCY use authorization is low.

Actually, it depends on the contract. If the contract specifies “immunizations as required for foreign country entry” or “immunizations as specified by the company”, then it is pretty cut and dried. If the individual immunizations required are spelled out in the contract, however, it becomes a negotiable item requiring renegotiation.

You can be fired, if an employer cannot accommodate the employee that refuses the vaccine into a comparable position where they may perform the functions of the same job remotely. Sorry Charlie, but as an FA or pilot, you either get it or get fired. Show me precedent or any legal wording that counters current employment law, and I'm all ears. Let me save you time, you won't. UAL is just saying this stuff to gain passenger confidence. It will take all the airlines to do this in unison later on. Don't see it happening until late this year at the earliest.

I can lean/empathize libertarian, but when it comes to communicable diseases that start to approach a fatality rate of 1% for many members of the traveling public, I don’t think the concept of mandatory vaccination is unreasonable.
if you want to recreate Walden Pond and go the off-the-grid route, I’m jealous. But living/working in close proximity to thousands if not millions of people necessitates giving up some freedoms (aka a “social contract”).

FAs, gate agents etc don't have to pass a medical every 6/12 months. Pilots do. We have to disclose our medical condition to include any visits to health professionals no matter the reason. Not so easy.
The vax is not to control spread. It is to lesson the effect once you get it. Nothing more. If masked worked, then why the push for the shot?
there's a waiver for everything. my guess is that pilots get waivered on the shot and can pass into countries no problem.
As for me I'm VEOP at DAL So don't have to worry about it. We had to get Yellow fever there. Then again I had that shot twice in the military (once every 10 years) it is a well known and well tested vax. This one --- Good luck!
A true faustian position - million dollar career or potential life time health issues for a bug that is less than .02% lethal for those under 65.
