I don't know your situation or seniority, but if I really wanted to live in Florida and I were still somewhat junior at a legacy then I would look at making the move to a LCC/ULCC that has a solid presence in Florida and put the rest in the rear view. There are a few of these airlines with multiple FL domiciles where you can call it a day and drive home from work. The commute to most places from here is bad enough that it would be worth considering IMO.

Or bad weather in one city so passengers rebooked to final destination through the city you’re trying to commute to. I’m not a commuter but about a year ago, I was ready to pull the trigger and bring my family along on an IAD-FLL trip. The leg to FLL had about 100 open seats and the leg home had about 30. Then a snowstorm hit ORD and suddenly FLL-IAD was overbooked by a ghajillion. Zero open seats from PBI, MIA, FLL, RSW for the next day or so.

The problem with commuting from the airline pilot center of the universe (Central Florida) is that there are between 35~250 open seats a day. There are about 350 Non-revs trying to go somewhere (most to work), and at least one flight will cancel a day, instantly filling up all the empty seats due to ops trying to re-route all the revenue pax through every other base except the one the flight canceled to. It's a losing deal to start with. Also, you never have a realistic idea how many folks are really trying to non-rev out senior to you because nobody lists until right before the flight. There is no etiquette to non-reving out of Florida because the locals use the same etiquette they apply driving to the airport, or shopping at Publix. It's just another reason why I'm not going back, although I grew up in S. Florida back when it was an awesome place. The Eagles were right... call a place paradise, kiss it goodbye.
...and the only thing that kept Florida from becoming the land of zombie pilot apocalypse over the last year is the airline bailouts. Otherwise, there would have been more furloughed airline pilots falling out of the trees than back in the late 80's, and they would have been serving Soylent Green on the street corners. :O
