Wow! What an elitist statement. I personally had no desire for college. Went to tech school and got certified in electrical and plumbing and started taking flying lessons. Thought getting a private might be fun. Next thing I knew just kept going. While flight instructing etc continued to work in the construction field and always made great cash money. Once on with regional which honestly wasn’t a major goal til it actually presented itself. Once there took some college online stuff but was bored. Didn’t see the need. Waste of money in my mind at the time. Even then was making way more on my days off than the Capts. Got hired by CAL and the rest is what it is. I might be an uneducated moron to you but I can wire and plumb a new home or commercial property and that has proven very beneficial with my commercial strip rental properties while making WB Capt. rate.

Sorry people like you so negatively judge those who are missing that little line on their resume. I’ll take my pre retirement portfolio over 99% of most college degreed righteous types. Carry on…

Now if you had simply said, to give yourself the best opportunity one would suggest a degree. I would agree with you.

Funny how I’m one that which you refer yet have never heard anyone complain about not getting hired because of no degree.

Agree with this and it’s appreciated you state simple facts and not refer to those without a degree as an unedamucated person like some here have.

I don’t pay much attention to anyone who puts ‘edumacated’ into the discussion.

Agree and it does kinda take on a ‘racist’ tone by typing and saying it like that. I bet Gooselives doesn’t have the elitist guts to put that kinda statement on a forum where his/her true identity is known. He or she is worried about no degree pilots in our ranks, whereas, I see comments like that and am concerned of racist pilots in our ranks.

You can’t hear anyone complaining about “not getting hired because of no degree,” because they didn’t get hired.

I don’t think ‘racist’ (although I suppose that’s possible too) so much as arrogant and self-absorbed. It’s sort of like the discussion about Professional Military Education in general and Squadron Officer’s School in particular on the Military thread. Whether you did SOS by correspondence, in residence, or not at all, is pretty much irrelevant to what sort of leadership and talent you have as an officer, but it is NOT irrelevant to your promotability because it’s a hoop you are expected to jump through by the organization. The same might be said of college degrees and aviation

A degree doesn’t necessarily make you a better pilot and particularly with some of the truly bull$hit degree majors these days doesn’t necessarily even give you any intellectual advantage over someone that got their high school equivalence by GED, but it’s an expectation of many HR people that you have it before they’ll grant you the interview.

Should it be that way? Almost certainly not. But it’s like age limits on driving, voting, firearms, etc. Society uses age as an indicator of maturity because it’s far more easily measurable than maturity, but we all know it isn’t the same thing. I’ve known incredibly responsible young teens - and adults that I wouldn’t trust to puppy’s it my dog for the weekend. But that doesn’t change the world we live in. Getting to a major if you have a degree - at least at present - is easier than if you don’t.

Bullshchitt. I did it and know of several others as well. One thing I hate about Airline Pilots (in general) is how cocksure they are of themselves about damn near everything and just how quick they are to rub your nose in it.

Retirement is totally underrated.

Homey! I hadn’t heard from you in so long I thought you might have been back in hole.
