Be careful what you wish for. Don't give control of your days off to the company. Don't get stuck paying imputed income tax on tickets and hotels if there's a better way.

I fear the most agreeable comprise is simply to double our pay while adding positive space commutes for all and reserve rules designed around said commute. It's not a solution I'm particularly happy with but it's one I'd accept in the short term.

they also only do that once a month in general. I don’t want to go back to working 17 days straight.

Double our pay and positive space commutes? Drinking early today?

Home basing as other have suggested has rest, scheduling, and bidding implications that carry far higher cost, much of which is the uncertainty of drastic change.

The company already provides PS commutes when it's tight aka expensive. Our reserve rules are almost there, just need a few more hours and some help in the short call and field standby areas. You're right about double pay though. That's too much. I'd take 15% annual cost of living increases for the next five years, an accumulated downgrade that meets you more than half way. DONT NEGOTIATE IN PUBLIC. I'm not. Please don't. Save it for the union's survey.

How long has a union survey been coming? Genuine question.

Admittedly union surveys are a bit of an anachronism now that we have Pulse surveys. I'd actually expect another Pulse first. Please save your negotiations for that.
