I don't agree. Blaming the government is usually the first thing I hear from failing businesses that can't or won't admit the blame lies with their leadership. "If only there was no regulation or taxes or fees or oversight whatsoever we'd be doing great!" Okay.

What government-imposed barrier to entry do you feel is artificially high and why?

“As a result, United Airlines and Amer-
ican Airlines have parked about 100
regional jets each in recent months
because they lacked the pilots to fly
them. Airlines have also stopped ser-
vice in small cities; for instance, Unit-
ed just announced it's dropping a 25th
city from its service since the begin-
ning of the pandemic. American is of-
fering massive pay hikes to the pilots
at its three regional airlines in an effort
to attract more pilots and, possibly,
stem some of the attrition.
"Communities are losing air service,
including those in South Carolina, and
this new legislation allowing safe,
healthy pilots to remain on the job is
an important step that is needed to
solve the pilot shortage,
" Drew Jacoby
Lemos, RAA's senior director of gov-
ernment affairs, said at a Monday
news conference at Greenville-Spar-
tanburg International Airport (GSP)
with Graham.
"The shortage has
meant that 71% of the airports that
have commercial air service have seen
a decline in flights.“

The reduction in service to small cites will accelerate. This affects the 435 congressmen personally.

What would you do if you were a congressman from Hooverville, WV or Nothingsberg, GA?

Take an Uber or raise the age?

I’m opposed to raising the age but this is a done deal.

Default 67 or not?

Only the junior ones do not want 67...that is till they get to 65 and can still hold a medical! Its human nature. Trust me junior pilots complain enough as it is. And yes when I was junior I did my share of complaining. Its just the nature of the beast.

Send them where the need is. Turn 66 and off to the regionals you should go. I’m sure a program like aviate can be implemented for them to flow there with seniority and benefits.

these would be great mentors to the regional pilots, a great opportunity to "give back" to the industry. Sometimes saying thank you is paying it back

It’s human nature to want to work until you’ve not the health to do it anymore? Mmmk.

Well neither Uber or raising the age solves so that problem does it? The only way small cities/towns get reliable service is if subsidies can be increased to support higher paying jobs at EAS and express carriers.

you lost our pension for us. And we did lose ten years, we just had to spend them in regionals instead of mainline carriers. But all the ones who support raising the age sure benefitted from it being lower their whole career.
