What is the hiring process like? After you submit your application is there a cognitive test to take in order to make it to the interview? I did one back in the day for a different program and it was pretty difficult and I didn’t make it to the interview. Additionally, approximately what TT is United looking for when hiring from LCCs?

About 6500tt, 700-ish TPIC, master’s degree, 4 internal letters of recommendation, and 10 total letters of recommendation. My app ended up getting locked for review about two weeks after submitting it and I received the hogan invite about 5 days later with an interview invite the following day. No job fairs or meet and greets. I feel extremely fortunate. No matter what your time, apply! You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. |

Crazy question, has United hired anyone with just the ATP written?

As you can see above, United Pilot Hiring picks their candidates using nepotism (remove family friend and replace ULCC). Your actual pilot credentials/achievements mean nothing to them. Do whatever you can to avoid those regionals and get hired at a ULCC. The difficult part is getting hired at a ULCC. The easy part is getting hired at United after submitting your application with your current employer. |

DL does the same thing with Endeavor and AA with their wholly owned carriers. In my BI class we had as many, probably more, each from regionals and military as LCCs. Even some from DL. Comparing to LCC only “nepotism” is a stretch.
You are absolutely correct, DL and AA are conducting the same practice but not to the extent of UA. There’s no minimums for UA if you’re employed at a ULCC. No degree, less than 2,000 hours total, a few check ride busts, zero LOR’s. Those are the pilot candidates UA has been picking off recently. It’s not because the applicant pool has run dry, it’s because they want to keep their partnered regionals staffed. |

Not it’s not a stretch to call United hiring practice “nepotism”. The only issue I have with the word, is by definition it means to favor families members or friends instead of ULCC’s.

Just as in “50% of new hires are under 25,” that does not reflect reality. |

Same, from F9, I had a bit more at 2500 TT but no TPIC or 4 yr degree.

United loves those zero to hero uneducated pilots. Just make sure you put the flaps up correctly on departure. I know that can be a difficult task for the inexperienced and untested.
