Yes I wanted to be in the seat I wanted should the music stop. Having a choice is nice! Gotta do it while we can

I’m absolutely sure that many didn’t. And that was a cataclysmic time period, planning and reacting to that is chicken little stuff.

commute to basic reserve, can’t pay me enough. If one actually analyzes the income made to hours spent dealing with the job, you make less than a wbfo line holder. To each their own, but the wb right seat is littered with seniors that refuse the Capt pay rate. Good for those who make that choice, I love that we have so many options at our airline, just a word of caution to actually tabulate how many hours of pain you’ll deal with by making that bid…and your life at home/hobbies will suffer.

I don't think guppy CA rsv will be longer than 1.2 yrs in the coasts. Change my mind

My guess is they will unless they can bid out (even then they’d be coming in Jr and back near the bottom in a new base) Just my hunch, but my guess is that the new bases being opened is to relieve some of the stress off the coastal bases where they can’t fill seats. Like MCO for EWR relief and LAS for West coast relief. They won’t go junior so those Jr CAs will still be junior and stuck for a while. If I was on the fence I’d personally at least wait until we know more about the possible new bases. They didn’t even bother wasting their time offering NC CA slots on the coasts in the current vacancy.

Yeah, I have a feeling that the coastal CA spots are being 'saved up' for whatever new base(s) are soon to open. So those 80 EWR CA unfilled (or whatever the number), will transfer to MCO/TPA....or wherever the base is.

That DID NOT HAPPEN..
And it is sometimes sad what people post and others may think as facts.
As someone who would have been in that 4700 pilot category, I had a phone call from my CP concerning my "negative" views on the LOA. It was mentioned at the time that if this LOA failed, the company could have furloughed up to 5000... to include me.
While I might not like that, so be it.. BECAUSE-
Per the UPA, I need 90 day Notice (takes us up to 1 Jan 2021)
Then..
I get 4 and 1/2 months pay (pays me to middle of May 21)

I NEVER expected the company to pull the trigger because of the mayhem it would have caused them.. But it was a great FEAR motivator.
I have certain skills to fall back on. We are ALL Professional Pilots. There will ALWAYS be flying jobs out there. (maybe they won't pay nearly the same.. but oh well. it's short term).
I (like many others out there) have a few skills beside piloting.

End of the Day, I believe it was roughly 2250ish pilots who got the WARN notice. Sucks for them but there is a price to being junior. Just like there is a price being junior on the BES of your choice when times are better.

I do agree, take a bid where you feel comfortable to sit in if (when) the music stops. Also understand- once the music stops.. the contract has to be complied with.
Glad it may have worked out for you but never forget, it didn't work out for some others.

Trick is, if they open a FL base, for example, a lot of those CAs are going to be senior guys coming from EWR. So you draw down the EWR flying, but lose a lot of hub staffing in the process. At the end of the day, you still need people willing to sit reserve in EWR; so how well it addresses the problem remains to be seen.

I still say as the current hiring tsunami continues to hit their respective 1 year marks, there will be an increasing number willing to bear the pains of juniority for CA pay. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out, though.
