I think there is some naivete here. You are a number to sk and he will furlough you without so much as an extra thought if it makes financial sense. 2019 was the most profitable year ever without a contract. The company was adamant that 10am day one reserve, increased medical costs, and reassignment language was in the new TA. They have been angling for those things for years and unfortunately for them those items were nonstarters in today's market. They didn't read the room and negotiated entirely too hard.
A ceo walking out to a picket to shake hands after 5 yrs of no contract and still egg dripping from the faces of everyone involved with that TA isn't going to go well. That was predictable.

As an outsider looking in, it's not a good sign that pilots on this board are soft siding with their CEO (against their own pilot group) over a photo shoot like this. Making excuses for SK saying he has a "fiduciary duty to low ball you" and "this is not a good look for ALPA" are really playing into the narrative your management team would like during these tenuous contract negotiations. What were they supposed to do? Go out and shake his hand while picketing?
The process is not sexy (recalls, new NC, etc) but it sounds like you are ultimately going through it to achieve a better contract. For all our sake, we're rooting for you.

New hires are welcome. But before you start talking about the pilots of this airline being embarrassing, you ought to walk a mile in these shoes. It has been 1747 days since we started negotiations on March 1, 2018. Pilots have very few levers to pull IAW the RLA Section 6. Picketing is one of them. These are pilots on their days off traveling to, and standing or walking the line. Pilots are under no obligation to speak with management during these events. Management loves coming down with a case of water and getting a photo op while handing the “poor pilots” bottled water. The ORD CPO tried this 2 weeks ago when I was there in the picket line. The newspapers want that shot so we don’t give it to them. Instead we stay stoic.
Problems with that? You should volunteer for the SPSC. There may be some things the pilots who have been here a while haven’t thought of. As for me? I’m ready for an on time contract and/or full retro. Not a bottle of water from management. Talk is cheap.

Fair enough Davedave. Forums are “cheap seats” after all and I do have a lot to learn.

This is a terrible and childish look for us when the union is the one who so badly dropped the ball, didn’t do any polls, gave into what the company wanted (you can’t blame the company for actually NEGOTIATING) and then has the audacity to not even let the vote close trying to save face. Now all of the sudden we’re militantly opposed to the company when they wisely take a wait and see approach, even after SK says he’s glad that the bar has been set so we can move past this…but apparently we’re no better than petulant children.
It’s business, nothing personal. I respect that captain a hell of a lot more than him sucking up to EB and being friendly during negotiations.

The company negotiates at his direction.
To anyone saying this makes the pilots “look bad” we’re going on over four years with nothing but empty promises. Admittedly a lot of that failure lies with TI. Who it really looks bad to his share holders, creditors, lenders and Wall St. All people SK needs to have confidence in him to lead.
New guy, just sit back, watch, learn and listen to the old guys.

Do you know what was in that deal? No.
It was pulled so we dont interfere with DALs contract. We can’t keep going back and forth one upping each other in perpetuity without anyone actually securing any tangible gains. TAs and AIPs don’t pay real dollars.

Maybe you and the MEC should take seat back, watch, learn, and listen to some outside perspective for a change. I say this based off off the results of what TA1 ie TUMI TA looked like…..
