I see this spouted by everyone at UAL. go look at EWR awards. the junior lineholders are flying PLENTY of non domestic flying trips. the whole "you'll be bunkie forever" is nothing but untrue.

hiring has gotten ahead of the pilot groups ability to adapt and respond. non-bunkie lineholder cannot be held by someone on probation at steady state. Nobody hired 18 months ago was thinking “i’ll hold a good widebody line by start of 23, better get the 777 bid in before Christmas!” Give it time; the half-wingers will be back to reserve

Even in 756, 777 and 787 elsewhere the notion that "you can't get a flying trip" is a misnomer. Majority of lines are half and half on the very bottom end. Go look, I'm not making it up. It's not just about how junior it is in EWR, we can ignore that. I'm saying the notion that bottom lineholders can't hold flying seat is just not True.

I think you need to add “right now” as a qualifier. COVID/Ukraine threw our international flying schedule for loop, so the lure of widebody flying wasn’t what it used to be. If they ever get back to the 2019 and prior schedules, you might see something entirely different as more people will be willing to give up 50% seniority to bid WB FO.

also for all you new hires about to be on reserve ina WB….good luck in China. I bet that is all you will see in open time for years to come.
NRT and HND trips are mega senior, why would China be different? It will pay even more.

we’ll see if people want to deal with getting stuck in China for COVID BS.

I know I don’t trust that everything will be fine. I’m sure within the first month we will have pilots stranded in China.
